Last week saw one of DCT's busiest times on record, with our clinic at near-full capacity across multiple studies. We'd like to extend our continued thanks and praise to our nursing, trial assistants, medical officer and operational staff for managing inpatients, admissions and discharge with dedication, professionalism and care and maintaining the Doherty Clinical Trials standard.

And as always, we extend our gratitude to all participants for their dedication and commitment to shaping the future of medicine.

Doherty Clinical Trials are excited to share the recent announcement in positive biomarker and clinical data results as part of the ongoing Phase 1/2 RESTORE-FA trial, in collaboration with Design Therapeutics.

The trial is evaluating DT-216P2, an investigational therapy, in patients with Friedreich ataxia (FA) and has shown that after four weeks of IV treatment, patients have seen positive improvements in clinical outcomes measures.

“We are all thrilled to see early clinical data demonstrating both biological activity and potential clinical benefit with this novel drug candidate. It is a very positive milestone for the program, and the team at DCT are delighted to have contributed to the study’s progress” said Dr. Tom Frisby, Lead Sub-Investigator at Doherty Clinical Trials.

A sincere thank you to the study participants, our investigator and clinical research teams involved in this important work.

Doherty Clinical Trials welcomes the recent announcement of increased funding towards a vaccine for Strep A.

First reported in the FinancialTimes, the announcement comes as phase one clinical trials for the disease, officially known as Group A Streptococcus, are starting to ramp up.
Strep A disproportionately affects thousands of people annually, with estimates placing it in line with malaria and HIV/Aids in terms of deaths worldwide, yet funding to date has been limited.

Launched by Coefficient Giving, the $140mn fund aims to double the number of vaccine candidates with a view to move to full human clinical trials by 2030.

Here at Doherty Clinical Trials, we are established to support both first in human vaccine development and Strep A human challenge testing and are pleased to see greater visibility given to this disease.

We look forward to seeing further progress made in the development of a vaccine, following this announcement.

Join the CHIVAS-M1 study.

The CHIVAS-M1 study is a human challenge trial that will help researchers better understand how Strep A causes infections, how the immune system reacts and how we can prevent Strep A disease with a vaccine. Your involvement in this study could lead to better health outcomes globally.

We’re proud to have started an important patient trial for a potential treatment for Friedreich ataxia at Doherty Clinical Trials! As a core part of our mission, we’re honoured to support the development of new potential treatments for medical conditions that currently lack safe and effective treatments, so that we may be able to improve health outcomes for current patients and future generations. We sincerely thank our patients and participants for their support. Well done to our amazing clinical, operations and laboratory team pictured here!

Did you know? Human infection challenge studies can generate critical scientific insights and have the aim of making potential treatments for infectious diseases more rapidly available to communities globally.

Human infection challenge trials involve exposing healthy volunteer participants to a well-characterised infectious agent (such as a bacteria or virus) in a controlled environment. A well-characterised infectious agent means that “the bug” has been tested for safety in humans and this has been approved by our Ethics Committee. When testing a new vaccine or treatment, “the bug” is applied either after the volunteer has been vaccinated, or before they have received treatment.

People who take part in human challenge trials play an important role in advancing infectious disease research.

Ahead of International Women's Day, we would like to reflect on this year's theme, March Forward. As a relatively new clinical trial unit, we follow in the footsteps of those who came before us and we draw strength from the progress made by women who have advanced workplace rights and driven medical innovations. We also recognise the work that remains to be done to achieve gender equality. We are committed to taking strides within our organisation to be a part in creating a future where all women and girls entering the world of medical research can thrive in an environment of equality and opportunity.

Doherty Clinical Trials is calling on healthy volunteers to participate in a new Phase I clinical trial of a needle-free vaccine for avian influenza. The trial will assess the safety and tolerability of the influenza vaccine administered using the needle-free technology developed by Australian biotech company, Vaxxas.

Unlike traditional needle and syringe administration, which is injected into a muscle, Vaxxas’ High-Density Microarray Patch (HD-MAP) technology delivers the vaccine to the immune cells immediately below the skin surface.

Doherty Clinical Trials’ Chief Medical Officer, Professor James McCarthy said: “This new way of delivering vaccines, such as influenza, is very exciting as it could reduce some of the limitations associated with vaccination via traditional methods.”

Doherty Clinical Trials are proud to support the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation and as such, we’re getting behind some of the DCT team who will be tackling the Blue Dragon Marathon Walk this Sunday to raise funds for their vital work.

For over 20 years, Blue Dragon has been a leading agency in Vietnam’s fight against human trafficking, working tirelessly to not only reduce human trafficking, but to end it. Blue Dragon helps rescue women and children who have been trafficked and provides street kids access to medical care, food and education.

The Blue Dragon Marathon Walk takes place this Sunday, 8th September with members of the DCT team covering a whopping 42 kilometers. With Intrepid covering 100% of the administrative costs, every cent donated to their cause will go directly to helping youth in Vietnam.

We're right behind you Ivy, Nicola, Elaine and Thu-Anh! 💪❤
