Sometimes, the best care comes with four paws. 🐾

This morning, our Care Partner Wendy brought her dog Grover along to visit Norma as part of her monthly check-in.

Norma has been Wendy's client for over 10 years, following her to each workplace. Recently, Norma unfortunately lost her dog and has been missing her immensely.

Wendy thoughtfully brought her beautiful dog Grover to say hello, and safe to say it was a success. 😁

These little moments mean everything, and it was amazing to make Norma's day!

NEW GUIDE: How to Access Home Care Funding

Support at Home is now the main government-funded program for older Australians who need help at home - but depending on your situation, it may not be the only funding pathway available.

Now, there's extra funding available for things like:

• Assistive technology, such as mobility aids, shower chairs or other equipment
• Home modifications, such as grab rails, ramps or safer bathroom access
• Short-term restorative care after a fall, illness or hospital stay
• End of life support at home

We’ve created a new guide to help explain what these funding pathways are, who they’re for, and how to access them.

Inside, we walk through:

• What funding is available
• What services and supports it can cover
• Who may be eligible
• How the process works
• What to ask your provider or assessor

Click below to download your copy, or give one of our friendly home care experts a call and we'd be happy to chat about it with you.

For many people and families, conversations about palliative and end-of-life care can feel difficult to start.

But talking earlier can help make sure a person’s wishes are understood before decisions become urgent.

This week is National Palliative Care Week, with the focus on “Getting to the heart of it: Big Questions. Real Answers.”

For older Australians receiving care at home, this can include questions like:
❓What matters most to me as my needs change?
❓Where would I feel most comfortable being cared for?
❓Who do I want involved in decisions about my care?
❓What support would help my family or carers feel less alone?

This week is a reminder that these conversations do not need to happen all at once. But starting early can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re wondering how to start a conversation about palliative care, Palliative Care Australia has put together a helpful video.

For our latest Long Service Legend, we want to shine a spotlight on the person who makes Age Up run smoothly - our Operations Manager, Danielle!

Before joining Age Up, Danielle spent 17 years working as a clinician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, supporting patients on dialysis.

It was there she saw firsthand the level of care people need, not just clinically, but in their everyday lives.

“I realised care has to be a holistic approach. You have to look at the whole person—their environment, their day-to-day life, what really matters to them.”

Danielle joined Age Up as a Care Partner and quickly built strong connections with clients. Over time, she stepped into her current role as Operations Manager, bringing that same people-first approach into leadership.

“For me, leadership isn’t about sitting at a desk for 8 hours. You have to connect with people. You have to listen. You have to build trust so people feel comfortable opening up.”

“You have to stay connected to the foundations, you can only lead well if you understand what your team are dealing with every day.”

Danielle has always had a deep care for others, especially older generations. Inspired by her nan, she understands how important it is to support people to maintain their independence with dignity and respect.

Danielle’s desire to help people get back to doing what they love is what keeps her coming back.

“One time we were able to help a gentleman who had severe mobility issues get back to playing golf again, it was his favourite thing to do and he didn’t think he’d ever be able to play again.”

Another standout moment for Danielle is working with the team to train up staff so a client could safely receive insulin at home, instead of having to move into permanent care.

“She was so thrilled we could make it work. She wanted to stay independent, and we made that possible.”

And something you might not know—Danielle has travelled to Sri Lanka four times and has taught English in an orphanage. “It really teaches you not to take things for granted.”

Danielle, your leadership inspires clients, the team, and everyone in between. Thank you for being there for others and always coming to work with a smile on your face.

What do you get when you mix an extremely kind soul with a love for fantasy novels and heavy metal? Introducing our latest Long Service Legend – Jess! 🤘📚

Jess has been part of the Age Up Health team since 2021. She started as a Support Worker, drawing on her background in residential care where she specialised in dementia support.

“It’s extremely different—helping someone in their home is so different. People are so much more comfortable. Home care is just so much more personal—it’s one-on-one.”

Working through COVID was a defining moment. “It was extremely scary. I was originally not going to continue in aged care, and then I found Age Up."

"Everything was so different—everyone was so client and staff focused. I felt supported no matter what happened. My passion for the job came back because I had a reliable team.”

Throughout her time with Age Up, Jess has had a huge impact on many lives, but one moment stands out most.

“I had a long-term client called Sam. We clicked straight away. At his funeral, I was sitting in the front row, and his son gave a speech about how I was an angel who helped them through one of the worst times in their lives. You don’t understand the impact you have until people come up to you and thank you so sincerely.”

Jess’s advice for anyone new to aged care is simple but powerful: “Hold onto special moments. The job can be tough, but those moments remind you why you do it.”

Jess, thank you for your care, heart and dedication. You remind us every day why compassion is at the centre of everything we do. 💙

The Government has announced the release of an extra 20,000 Home Care Packages between now and November!

This will help more older Australians access the support they need – and it comes ahead of the new Support at Home program launching in November.

We’re already reform-ready and set to help clients smoothly enter into the new Support at Home system.

Here’s why locals choose us:

✅ Local care, familiar faces – you’ll see the same trusted support staff each visit.

✅ Direct access to your Care Manager – no call centres, no waiting in queues.

✅ Support at Home ready – so you can be confident the change over will be simple

If you want to be with a provider who's ready for the changes and puts you first, get in touch with us below.

Is your Home Care Package still giving you the support you need? It's normal for your needs to change over time, but your package should change with them.

Here are 5 signs it might be time for an upgrade:

💰 Sacrificing essential services – Skipping physio, cutting cleaning visits, or delaying care to cover other costs.

🏥 Recent hospital visit – Needing wound care, medication help, or mobility support after being discharged.

🚶 Struggling with everyday movements – Finding it harder to get out of bed, climb stairs, or stand from a chair.

🤝 Relying more on others – Asking family, friends, or neighbours for lifts, bin runs, or extra help.

🌏 Less active in your community – Missing social outings, skipping events, or avoiding appointments you used to enjoy.

If any of these sound like you or a loved one, it's time to get reassessed. The good news is the process is quite simple, and you can find out how in our blog:
