Residents from our Monash Gardens and Coppin Centre homes came together for an afternoon of fun at Caldermeade Farm & Cafe in Gippsland.

After enjoying a delicious lunch at the café, everyone loved exploring the farm and meeting some of the animals, including ducks, goats and the impressive Scottish Highland cows.

The afternoon was then topped off with a wonderful afternoon tea.

A big thank you to Caldermeade Farm for a lovely day!

When Maree returned home from hospital after breaking her shoulder, it was Royal Freemasons who gave her the In-home Support she needed to cope with everyday living after her operation.

That was more than ten years ago and Maree, now 84, is still living independently at home with the help of our team. They are an integral part of her routine, providing support every two weeks with washing, cleaning and making her bed, and assisting with shopping. Maree also receives help with meals.

Now recovering from a recent hip replacement, Maree couldn’t live without the help she receives from Royal Freemasons through her Support at Home package. “It would be difficult for me to cope without the home care,” she says. “It has a lot of benefits. Physically it helps me to get things done – getting up and down the stairs when I couldn’t use my hip much, and the transport help is very valuable because I wouldn’t normally have anyone to take me.”

Importantly, the support enables Maree to keep living at home and doing the things she loves like her weekly craft group and playing the keyboard with her music therapist. “I like to be independent,” says Maree. “I like to decide what I do with my time.”

To Maree, it’s not just the practical help she gets from the team that makes a difference but also the emotional support. “The office staff are lovely and Annie, my case manager, is very, very supportive, and I feel as though I have a family again. I do feel I have someone with whom I can chat. The whole service is physically and emotionally helpful.”

There is nothing quite like a new set of clothes to help you feel fresh, renewed and confident. For many of us, it’s something that we may take for granted, but for some of the people in our care, it is a luxury they can no longer afford.

That’s why we are excited to launch our Clothed with Compassion Appeal, raising funds to purchase essential clothing for our residents in need.

Across our seven aged care homes, there are a number of residents with limited financial means and little or no family support to buy them new clothes — but with your help, we can change that.

Your donation will go towards new socks, shirts, jumpers, trousers and coats — everyday clothing that will help them feel rejuvenated and confident.

At Royal Freemasons, we want to ensure that these residents feel supported, connected and part of a compassionate community that cares for their needs.

Will you help us raise $20,000 to purchase new clothes for our residents in need?

This is your chance to support the dignity and wellbeing of these residents by providing them with the comfort and confidence that comes with a new set of clothes.

A big thank you to Naturipe Fruits in Bacchus Marsh for welcoming our residents for a fun afternoon of fruit picking.

Residents from our Springtime community in Sydenham loved being in the fresh air amongst the orchards, picking persimmons to take back home and enjoy.

Experiences like these are such an important part of our wellbeing program at Royal Freemasons, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the gentle comfort of nature while staying connected to the wider community.

It’s been a joy to celebrate the commitment and dedication of our wonderful volunteers this National Volunteer Week!

At Royal Freemasons, we’re fortunate to have more than 40 volunteers across our Residential Aged Care homes, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we care for.

Our volunteers give their time, friendship, compassion and talents so generously, bringing our residents comfort, joy, fun and laughter every day.

To recognise and thank them for their incredible contribution, we hosted a special high tea in their honour at our Monash Gardens home in Mulgrave, shared with the residents they care for so deeply.

Is this “Your Year to Volunteer”?

Many, many happy returns to Monash Gardens resident, Ken, who celebrated his 100th birthday this week! 🎂🎉

The Lifestyle team put on a magnificent party to mark this incredible milestone, complete with balloons, a cake and live entertainment.

Surrounded by family and friends, Ken thoroughly enjoyed singing along to golden oldies such as ‘Blueberry Hill’ and ‘Sweet Caroline.’

In his 100 years, Ken is especially proud of his 69 years of marriage to his beloved late wife, Jean, and his wonderful family of three children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

We’re so glad you enjoyed the celebrations, Ken! 🧡

Each week during the school term, Year 9 students from Mazenod College walk over to our Monash Gardens home in Mulgrave for a special visit with residents.

These catch-ups are part of the students’ community service program, and residents always look forward to seeing them.

Monash Gardens Lifestyle Coordinator Trish says, “It’s great for the students to experience the banter and fun times at our home. The residents, particularly those who don’t have grandchildren, absolutely love the visits; their eyes just light up. And when they talk to the students, they share their stories and are so interested in what they are doing in their lives.”

Time together is spent playing games like carpet bowls and Scrabble — and things can get very competitive.

“The residents slay them at Scrabble,” Trish laughs. “It’s game on! Sometimes I have to adjudicate.”

“These types of activities are just so important for keeping residents connected with the wider community, and they benefit the students as well. It really is a win-win.”
