Tonight, members of our leadership team are in attendance at the 'Facts, Myths and Questions Around the NDIS' information session hosted by Different Journeys.

With changes to the NDIS on the horizon, we're committed to staying across everything so we can support our families with clarity and confidence. πŸ’™

A huge thank you to Kim Henderson for her tireless work and advocacy for the disability community β€” and to Different Journeys for hosting this important event. We're so grateful for the people in our community who make nights like this possible. It's an uncertain time, all we can do is wait and be ready to respond whendecisions the finally come through!

We'll be sharing what we learn β€” watch this space! ~ Frances πŸ’¬πŸŒ³

A special post today β€” straight from the words of a young person who joined us for work experience recently. 🌟
They've given us permission to share their story (with details changed to keep them anonymous). We think it's worth reading.
This student β€” let's call them Alex β€” has Autism and ADHD. For Alex, the idea of work experience felt daunting: a fast-paced environment, unfamiliar people, no structure they could rely on. So they made a thoughtful choice and requested to do their placement somewhere already familiar to them: The Speech Tree.
Over three days, Alex supported sessions with young children, helped with behind-the-scenes tasks like laminating, and on the final day was genuinely amazed by a group of bright, creative homeschooled kids.
"They were extremely innovative," Alex wrote. "They can come up with names for things that no normal person could think of in a lifetime."
By the end, Alex had also sat in on a clinical meeting β€” a real, meaningful part of the work we do every day.
What struck us most was Alex's self-awareness β€” knowing what kind of environment they needed, and advocating for it. That's a skill we admire in anyone, at any age.
If you have a young person in your life who might benefit from a supported, neurodiversity-affirming work experience, feel free to reach out. We'd love to chat. πŸ’¬πŸŒ³

Another look at our school holidays:
Our Custom Keyboard Studio school holiday program was an absolute hit! 🎹⌨️
Participants spent the day designing, building and customising their very own keyboards β€” connecting with others who share their passions for technology, gaming, creativity and design. From choosing colour palettes to personalising every key, there was excitement, focus and incredible collaboration throughout the day.
Programs like this are a powerful reminder of what interest-based connection can look like in a therapeutic setting. We watched participants share knowledge freely, support each other through problem-solving challenges, demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail, and grow in confidence as their passions were genuinely welcomed and celebrated.
Thank you to every participant and family who joined us β€” we loved seeing all the unique creations come to life. Every keyboard told a story! πŸ’š

Meet Antonio

We'd love to introduce Antonio β€” one of our wonderful school holiday program assistants here at The Speech Tree! πŸ’š
Antonio has become such a valued part of our programs and a fantastic role model for many of the young people who attend. Participants love spending time with him β€” whether they're talking gaming, technology, keyboards, strategy, hobbies or just swapping random facts and interests.
One of the things we value most is the unique perspective Antonio brings to our team. As therapists, we know that interactions are often shaped by an 'adult' lens β€” and frequently from a predominantly female perspective. Antonio brings lived experience, humour, genuine relatability and authentic ways of connecting that resonate deeply with many of the young people we support. Particularly for those who may not often see themselves reflected in traditional therapy spaces, having someone like Antonio in the room can make all the difference.
We're so grateful for the knowledge, enthusiasm and authenticity he brings to every single program. And we know many of our participants look forward to seeing him just as much as we do!

Looking back at our school holidays -

What an incredible time we had at our Dragon Quest school holiday program at The Speech Tree!
Over the course of the day, our adventurers teamed up for themed challenges, collaborative quests, creative problem-solving and plenty of laughter along the way.

Programs like Dragon Quest give children and young people the opportunity to build real-world skills β€” confidence, communication, teamwork and connection β€” in a supportive, neuroaffirming environment where their interests are celebrated, not just tolerated.

We loved watching every participant bring their own unique humour, ideas and strengths to the group. Seeing new friendships form over a shared love of adventure and imagination is exactly why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us for this special program. We're already looking forward to the next quest! πŸ‰

NDIS Update

Hi Speech Tree Fam,

You may have seen recent announcements about changes to the NDIS. We know this may feel uncertain or unsettling for many families (we aren't loving it either! 😬)

While changes will roll out over time, there are no immediate impacts to current plans.

At The Speech Tree, we remain committed to supporting you. We will stay informed, advocate for your needs, and help you navigate any changes along the way.

Most importantly β€” you are not alone in this. We’re here for you.

Please reach out if you have questions or need support.

School holiday bookings are now open and we have three very different adventures on offer this break.

At Spy Academy, children step into the role of trainee spies. They’ll crack codes, solve missions, and work together to complete secret challenges that test their observation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. It’s fast-paced, collaborative, and perfect for kids who love puzzles, mystery, and a bit of undercover action.

For children drawn to imagination and fantasy, Dragon Quest invites them into the world of dragon research. Together we explore where dragons might live, what powers they might have, and what makes a dragon friendly or fierce. Each child designs and creates their own dragon to take home while building ideas, sharing stories, and working with the group.

And for kids who love technology, design, and making things with their hands, Custom Keyboard Studio offers something completely different. Participants customise and assemble their own mechanical keyboard, learning how the components work while creating something unique they can actually use every day.

All of our holiday programs are designed by speech pathologists to be highly engaging, creative, and socially rich experiences. While the activities feel like pure fun, they naturally support communication, collaboration, flexible thinking, and confidence.

Places are limited and these groups tend to fill quickly. If one of these adventures sounds like the perfect fit for your child, now is a great time to secure a spot.
