In a few weeks we gather for UNBOUND, a 5-night residential retreat where we will orient ourselves to the radical, freeing possibilities of the Dharma.

In the secular West, the Dharma can sometimes be reduced to self-improvement or ‘wellness’ to cope better with demands of modern living.

But this misses the essential juice of the teachings.

On this retreat we will explore:

✨How you can meet your pain from a wider view, in order to go through it. Not reaffirm it.

✨Turning towards a more inclusive sense of ‘wellbeing’ - where you recognise that you are one node in a soulful network.

✨Entering into states of flow, beauty, connection - to meet your humanness from a larger place

✨Settling into whole-bodied concentration practice and natural good feeling, which will assist you to see in ways that free, particularity into the nature of suffering, impermanence and selflessness

Join me from the 18th - 23rd September at the Atisha Centre near Bendigo for UNBOUND, to turn towards freedom, transmute what’s no longer working and unbind yourself - so you can keep doing what’s yours to do.

What I want is for us to keep diving deep into these teachings, and to experience liberating insight - not to preserve in jars or dusty books, but in a way that changes your days.

Not in a way that appears 'spiritual', but in a way that feels right - and also works

Here are some key distinctions I make in my approach, to preserve the depth of these teachings, whilst avoiding the ways they can go wrong:

🔥Meditation is not about dulling feelings, becoming neutral, or leaving our bodies - we are deepening our experience of our bodies in both a grounded and radical way

(So that you can handle a wider range of experience)

🔥Practice doesn't fade you out - it makes you more yourself, more here, whilst having footing in deeper ground

(So that you can be present for what matters)

🔥This path is neither all about allowing, surrender, acceptance, nor is it all about effort, focus, going for it - It’s learning skills to do both. Whilst also sometimes doing nothing at all.

(So that you can learn to trust in the cycles of life more, whilst also doing what is yours to do)

🔥Waking up is not about negating primary needs / desires / pretending you aren't human - we’ve seen how badly that's gone with some teachers. It's about about gaining footing in a deeper, wider ground

(So you can move towards what actually fulfills you and others)

🔥The experience of emptiness or inter-beingness is NOT to be confused with freeze or dissociation

(It's not about exiting, but entering into your life with more wisdom)

I want this type of support to be open to all of you.

Join me for GATHER IN - two online sessions to offer you more backing, depth and resilience - as you live, work, relate and create in these times.

There's a place for you here.

You are welcome at the evening session - Thursday 20th August, and/or the
half day - Sunday 6th September

Let's do this together.

Come on down to a night of teaching and practice this Monday 10th August, run by our kick-arse volunteers at Melbourne Insight Meditation (we love you people).

I’ve been teaching with Melbourne Insight Meditation since its inception 15 years ago, and like everything I do with them, this evening is offered on the revolutionary process of Dana - the gift economy of care.

This is quite radical.

You pay a base cost ($10/ $5) for the room rent, and the rest is an intimate encounter between you and me. You listen to me and you pay what you feel, what you can. You respond to what you receive from me.

Join me on Monday at Ceres, East Brunswick, where we’ll keep feeding this culture of waking up, clear seeing - beyond crooked gaze - for the dignity of us all…

Booking at link in bio.

(You can also check out my upcoming retreat, Unbound - also offered on dana.)

A last call out to our practice day this Saturday 18th July!

The Power of Meditation Practice - come sit back in your saddle, widen your view, open to the skies above and feel the support below you.

I’m so looking forward to being together in the real again.

Also if you want to listen to some of my  contemplative dives into practice, presented alongside artists' works, at the exhibition pictured above -  they are at the link in my bio under 'free practices'.

We start at 10 am in Hawthorn, The Augustine Hall. I’ll be opening up different entry points into the deep. My intention is to support traction in your practice - saddle up with us!

We need radical reorientation to what matters now. I’m feeling this. Are you?

My question - how can the Dharma teachings best support you right now?

Whether new or seasoned, come find your seat with us at The Power of Meditation Practice Urban Day Retreat on July 18th. There’s a place for every-body here.

Together we will respond and attune to your particular situation.

So you can keep feeling your own connection to what you uniquely need to cultivate and also what sparks your interest.

Knowing you are never actually alone when you practice really helps. We can make real shifts together.

We need the backing of the community to support the kind of insight that contains us, changes us, frees us, deepens us and propels us forward.

I’m here for this and to support the deepening and honing of your practice - wherever you happen to be or however you think your practice is going.

Come refine your path ahead. And then be supported to get behind it. Follow the link in bio to learn more.

Recently I spoke at a twenty year celebration of Rollercoaster Theatre Company. I spent a good portion of my thirties, when not traveling and teaching retreats, in the room with these actors. We conspired on an ethic of a generous and fierce gaze to draw the best stuff out in each other. It was enlivening to return (l laughed so hard) to feel the ongoing warmth and power of our bond. To see the growing ensemble continuing their explosive work. It was also rousing to recall all the work Sarah Sutherland and I, and later Carolyn Bock created together. Also the collaboration with actors from Kirabati who we partnered and shared our methods with to amplify civic rights.

A huge salute to kick-arse Sarah Sutherland who, as artistic director and now board member, has run this ship for twenty years! Thank you to Caroline B for her artistic craft and steadfastness. Also a nod to the beautiful Jacinta Parsons, who chairs the board with Sarah, for emceeing so hilariously and seamlessly, to Clare Bowditch for turning up to support with beautiful aplomb and Sammy J for making me laugh more. And mostly to the actors who haven’t stopped for twenty years, and particularly Melissa Slaviero who heckled me repeatedly like she used to. Hooray Rollercoaster!!!!

If you’d like to donate to Rollercoaster Theatre Company you can do so via their website.

If you’d like to work with me, I am offering retreats, online teaching & practice sessions and individual mentoring. More info at the link in bio.

Calling anybody who has participated in The Collective Well / In Your Own Skin mentorships or other dedicated practice with me!

Next month I am offering an emergent, intimate online space for you called The Golden Fish, where we can keep diving into practice together.

Held over three Tuesday evenings in June, this series will be a mixture of Q&As, emergent dharma talks, breakout groups and guided practices.

My teaching will be informed by what arises in the group.

The name The Golden Fish is a nod to the golden shadow - the beauty, undefended sweetness, warmth & potency that can reveal itself with practice.

Let’s gather to turn towards this luminosity - and whatever else you are going through across the scale of human experience.

We gathered to revive a map of archetypal, elemental, sane energies - to support women stepping forth.

We steeped in foundations within the Insight tradition, then moved off the cushion to revive this ta***ic map - where the feminine is reinstated, where practice meets daily life, where the world is your monastery.

Watching women across all ages step up, speak up, shake off limiting views amplified by our modern culture, is a powerful thing.

Thanks to the wonderful team and to all the women who came, and to the generosity of all the people and teachers who have kept these practices alive and opened them up to me.

Standing up together on Sunday in the fire of these times, sparks of Inspiration flew here in Melbourne/Naarm.

Threading together different traditions - First Nations and the Dharma - to create deeper netting for these times.

I'm appreciative of Ruth Ruth Langford for bringing her wisdom, straight talk and medicine, as we jumped up off the cushion into relational practices.

We explored what it is to stand up and step up within our unique capabilities and capacities.

Thanks everybody for coming down, and Melbourne Insight Meditation for hosting this event so beautifully.
