It was great to attend the Epworth Women’s Health Symposium today, bringing together more than 100 attendees for a fantastic day of interesting talks in a truly multidisciplinary setting.
I was invited to speak about benign breast disease, aimed at a practical approach in the primary care setting. Benign breast disease is incredibly common, yet can be surprisingly challenging to manage. Key principles included excluding malignancy, managing symptoms effectively and, importantly, avoiding unnecessary investigation where appropriate.
I thoroughly enjoyed learning from the other speakers, with a particular highlight being Dr Ellett’s talk that included the Process Communication Model. This is a tool for understanding ourselves, and others, and how we communicate, which I’ve found extremely useful professionally and personally.
I was also super excited to meet in person many colleagues with whom I share patients and work alongside in their care. These opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and strengthen those relationships are such an important part of multidisciplinary practice.
Thank you Dr Sze Wey Lee for including me in a really enjoyable day.

A few days in Seattle for 2026, bringing home a few new ideas and perspectives.

Especially meaningful to spend time with my dear friend Dr Yarrow McConnell, a surgical oncologist and CMO in neighbouring Tacoma. Hard to believe it’s been almost 13 years since we completed our two-year Society of Surgical Oncology fellowship together. That period of subspecialty training has shaped so much of how we think and practise today.

Grateful for friendships where the conversation flows as easily as ever, no matter the time or distance.

Amazing work by Treasure Chest - $150k raised at today’s Spring Luncheon!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It was a lovely afternoon to dress up and hang out with the work family and even got to catch up with a few of my lovely patients! 😍 The special guest Stephanie Browitt was absolutely exceptional - hearing about her experience, courage and resilience after her severe volcano injuries was so honest and inspirational. Funds were raised with auctions including two couture dresses which were so intricate that they have to be seen in real life to appreciate.

We have been extremely fortunate at and Royal Women’s for the ongoing support of Treasure Chest Charity, to help provide our patients with world class care. Over the years Treasure Chest have provided funding for services including ni**le tattooing, psychology, and cold capping. This year they are supporting a plastics breast reconstruction nurse at RMH and a breast care nurse in Echuca. The committee (some of whom have been treated for breast cancer themselves) work selflessly, tirelessly and passionately in their own time and I can’t even imagine how much work today’s event would have taken to organise. Thank you so much , and we look forward to next year’s event! 💫

Many thanks to Di for spoiling me for my upcoming birthday with balloons, cake and lovely gifts after a busy consulting day 🎈🧁🎉
Getting to an age when I feel genuinely chuffed when my very kind patients tell me that I “look too young to be a surgeon” 😜
