The most productive thing I did today
wasn't answering emails, promoting an upcoming event, or being on a podcast.

It was the massage I got at 10 a.m!

Because a relaxed body and mind make better, wiser decisions than an exhausted one.
Because I was thinking more clearly afterwards.
I was more present and creative.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learnt that rest, pleasure and joy were things to be earned.

Finish the work.
Tick every box on your to-do list.
Look after everyone else.
Do the hard thing first.
Then, if there's time, you can receive your reward.

But I think we've got it backwards.

What if the massage comes first?

What if the slow morning isn't procrastination?

What if the walk in nature isn't a distraction from your work, but the very thing that allows you to do it well?

So let's not squeeze more out of ourselves. Let's not push and force ourselves into doing but let's begin from a place that nourishes us.

Not because we've earned it.

Not because 'now' we have accomplished the other tasks we are worthy of relaxing/slowing down/indulging.

Not because 'now' we deserve it.

But because nourishment, rest and peace is the place from which we want to live.

I've created The Gathering for women standing at a crossroads. A small, intentional online circle where just 3 women (plus me) come together, each bringing one meaningful idea, decision, project or life transition they wish to explore and reflect on.
