NDIS FUNDING CUT? YOU CAN CHALLENGE THE DECISION.
Across the NDIS, participants are losing essential supports because they are supposedly “not value for money.”
Families are then left to carry the physical, emotional and financial burden.
But an NDIA decision is not automatically correct simply because it appears in a participant’s plan.
If you disagree with a funding decision:
1. Compare the new plan with the previous plan.
2. Identify exactly what was reduced or removed.
3. Ask the NDIA for written reasons and the evidence used.
4. Request an internal review—generally within three months of receiving the decision.
5. Submit evidence connecting the participant’s disability, functional needs, risks and requested supports.
6. Explain why cheaper alternatives will not safely achieve the same outcome.
7. If the internal review is unsuccessful, consider applying to the Administrative Review Tribunal—generally within 28 days.
Do not wait until every report is ready before protecting the deadline. Lodge the review request and state that further evidence will follow.
The hard truth is that saying, “We need more funding” is not enough. A strong challenge must clearly explain:
* what support is required;
* how much is required;
* why it is necessary;
* what will happen without it; and
* why it represents value for money.
My team and I support participants and families to understand difficult NDIS decisions, prepare stronger review requests and use their approved funding more strategically—so the plan stretches further without compromising essential care.
You do not have to navigate the confusion alone.
