Earlier this month, we celebrated the incredible assistance dogs who transform lives every day through their skill, loyalty, and unwavering partnership for International Assistance Dog Week (Aug 02-08).

From guiding people with vision impairment to providing mobility support, medical alerts, and greater independence, these remarkable dogs do so much more than perform tasks, they empower confidence, connection, and freedom.

Swipe through to learn more about the impact of assistance dogs and how you can help support greater awareness and accessibility.

WDV joins the calls of our members, experts and allies across the disability sector, that in its current form the NDIS Amendment Bill should not pass. “We are already aware that some of our members are now unable to attend community events and are having to reduce their social interaction due to NDIS cuts. We hear politicians tell us that people with disability have an equal place in society, the NDIS cuts to social and community participation show us something different.” - Julie Kun (she/her) Interim Chief Executive Officer.

Image Description: Two sandy social media tiles with the WDV stacked logo along the top of each. The logo has purple text that says “Women with Disabilities Victoria” under subtle letterforms of “W,” “D,” and “V,”. Tile 1 has the first paragraph from the above text and WDV’s ‘advocacy’ icon – a megaphone in light purple and orange. Tile 2 has the remaining text with WDV Interim Chief Executive Officer Julie Kun’s quote and a photo of her in a circle frame. Julie has light skin and a purple shaded short pixie cut hairstyle. She wears glasses and smiles at the camera.

Women and gender-diverse people with disabilities demonstrate significant strength, leadership, and resilience. However, our resilience should not be mistaken for an absence of need. Too often, resilience is a response to navigating systems that require people with disabilities to overcome barriers rather than removing those barriers.” This is one of the crucial insights we shared in our organisational State Disability Plan Submission. Read the full submission here: https://wdv.org.au/news/wdv-advocates-for-a-state-disability-plan-for-women-and-gender-diverse-people-with-disabilities/
