I was honoured to be involved in the recent combined AGES & UGSA preconference robotic surgery workshop, an area that I'm deeply passionate about, and also to be invited to speak at the conference on a topic close to my heart "Seeing is Believing." What we see shapes what we can do for our patients. Surgical vision is everything.

However, I realise that the title cuts both ways. Seeing is believing applies just as much to people who we work alongside. I want to extend my gratitude to my team, who went above and beyond, not only helping me to see better as a surgeon, but also believing in what I'm doing. That kind of belief is rare and more precious than any technology in the operating theatre, and I never take it for granted.

It's not my personality writing a lengthy post but I just wanted to share my feelings before going on leave. After a hectic week, this card reminded me exactly why I love what I do.

It's not the busy schedule. It's not the revenue. It's THIS!

A heartfelt message like this means more than any gift ever could. Gratitude has a way of resetting everything and reminding us why we chose this path in the first place.

What touched me most was their recognition of the sacrifices that often go unseen — the late finishes, the missed family dinners, and the precious time spent away from my child. They saw it, and they understood.

Reading this card made me reflect on how far I've come. The lives touched, the pain relieved, and the privilege of helping patients regain their health, confidence, and quality of life. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to do work that can make such a meaningful difference in someone's life.

To my colleagues and everyone working in healthcare, when you're running on empty, remember this. Our patients see us. They feel the care, compassion, and dedication we bring every day. Sometimes when we need it most, they remind us that we're exactly where we're meant to be.
