If you’ve experienced this type of anxiety, you’ll know how unsettling it can be.
When there’s something tangible you’re worried about, at least you can make sense of it. But when anxiety seems to show up in your body completely out of the blue, it can feel like there’s nothing to rationalise or problem-solve.
And after it happens enough times, it’s really common to start worrying about the anxiety itself. When will it happen again? What if it happens while I’m driving, at work, out with friends, or somewhere I can’t easily leave?
This is where the cycle can start to build.
It’s also why I don’t think we can look at anxiety as purely psychological. Sometimes there are physiological factors contributing to that stress response. Sometimes your nervous system has learned that certain sensations or situations mean “danger”. And then there are the thoughts and behaviours we develop around anxiety once we’ve become afraid of experiencing it again.
This is exactly the kind of anxiety I had in mind when I created my free masterclass, Breaking the Anxiety Loop.
I’ll take you through what can actually be happening underneath anxiety like this, the common mistakes that can keep the cycle going, and where I think you need to start if you want to change it.
