After 7 years, I'm stepping down from the Sports Medicine Australia VIC Council — including the last 3 as Chair.
Seven years goes fast when you're doing work that matters.
When I reflect on what we built, I want to be clear- I was a small part of a great team. The real credit belongs to the people around me who showed up, session after session, and made things happen.
What am I most proud of? We went where most councils didn't.
Para sports. LGBTQ+ in sport. Legal issues in sport. Strength sports. Women's health in sport. Show sports. Topics that were niche, overlooked, or considered too uncomfortable at the time — we ran them anyway. And people came.
We also took SMA VIC regional for what was pretty much the first time. Full house. That one still sits with me.
I'm grateful to SMA for trusting me to experiment with the PD structure — and for the latitude to do things differently. Not everything worked. But a lot of it did.
Professionally and personally, this chapter has been one of the most enriching of my career.
I've had the privilege of working alongside some of the true stalwarts of sports medicine in this country, such as Luke Nelson: Running injuries & performance🏃♂️🏃♀️ ⚡️Lou Bibby | Sports Osteo⚡️Lou Bibby | Sports Osteo & High-Energy MentorhBrooke 🤍aThihan Chandramohan Sam KayllPMichelleSSimone Muscat | Physio 💜eSIAnJohn OsbornecKade Paterson Harrison Michael made every committee meeting worth it.
On to the next chapter. 🙏
