Every day I think about the climate crisis.
Every day as I read or watch the latest news I experience the full range of emotions: fear, frustration, overwhelm, rage, and hope - and I think to myself "I'm just an everyday person. A mum, a wife, a friend. I'm not a leader, I don't have the power to change the system or fix this..."
But people have told me that I AM in fact, a leader. That I DO inspire them to make changes in their lives. That feels a bit strange to me, because I actually try not to talk about it ALL THE TIME. I don't want to be 'pushy', or for it to be the only thing I bang on about... But I have learned that all over Australia, the vast majority of people also care about it. They want more action from our political leaders. We all do. We just don't feel empowered enough to demand it yet. And those that are opposed, TALK REALLY LOUDLY, so we (or really, I) tend to lose confidence, and get quieter. (But not always)...
The way I get through this is to work hard at my job in growing the Climate Conversation Program. Because it was through attending one of these Conversations that I found the motivation and empowerment to stand up for the thing that worried me but sat at the back - pushed down because it was too hard to fix on my own. Building a community of facilitators to go and do this work in Australia inspires me, and I am grateful that I get to put energy into solving this crisis as my job.
Not-for-profits like ours rely on donations to operate. People donate because they care, because they can, because they can't help in other ways. These donations enable us, and me, to do the work. So we can grow, and reach thousands more people every year - and create space for them to engage with this global crisis in a supported way that results in change. In action, and policies that will protect Australia's future.
If you are able to donate to our fundraising efforts, I would be so grateful.
Ultimately, I know that by thinking about climate change, and then talking about it - I am bringing others along with me, and together we will shift the social climate and push for greater action on climate in Australia.
