At Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre we are committed to providing your pet with the highest quality specialist veterinary treatment available. Established in 1999, the Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre (MVSC) is one of our nation's leading providers of advanced multidisciplinary medical services for animals. The Centre aims to provide clients, patients and referring veterinarians with t

he best integrated veterinary care available, within the one complex. As a Centre of Excellence, our specialists are committed to employing evidence-based practice to ensure animals receive medical care comparable to that of human medicine. The Centre’s collaborative approach to care draws upon the extensive skills of its specialists within the areas of internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, oncology and behavioural medicine. The Centre also has Victoria’s only combined medical and surgical oncology team onsite, with full internal medicine support to address a range of conditions often associated with cancer. Staff at MVSC understand and value the bond between clients and their pets. We aim to always cater to the emotional needs of clients, while keeping in mind the medical needs of their pets. We aspire to provide the best care to help pets live healthier, happier lives. As referral medicine providers, we maintain a strong relationship between the client, patient, and referring veterinarian. We discuss the diagnostic and treatment options available with our client to enable them to make an informed choice regarding their pet’s treatment. MVSC is located in two central Melbourne locations to serve our clients better; Our main centre is in Glen Waverley, with specialist services also available at our Essendon Fields centre at Essendon Airport.

CO2 Laser at MVSC 🎇

Laser treatment is a powerful tool we use in Dermatology, allowing us to precisely remove problematic tissue while minimising damage to surrounding healthy structures.

Why we choose laser:
🔺 Improves airflow into the ear canal
🔺 Reduces heat, moisture, and debris build-up
🔺 Targets diseased tissue with high precision
🔺 Less bleeding and faster healing compared to traditional surgery

The goal isn’t just to treat the current infection, it’s to break the cycle of recurrence and make long-term management more effective.

In cases like Soda’s, addressing the structural changes can make a huge difference in comfort, infection control, and overall ear health ❤️

Getting Alby back in the water! 🌊

Like many Labradors, Alby lives for the water, but ear infections were starting to get in the way.

With targeted therapy and ear flushing, we were able to clear the infection and build a plan that keeps him comfortable and lets him keep swimming!

Managing ear disease isn’t just about treating infections, it’s about helping dogs keep doing what they love most! 💙

We’re very excited to introduce the newest member of our team, Dr Luke Ellis!

Luke joins us as a Surgical Registrar after completing his Internship at Peninsula Vet Emergency & Referral Hospital.

After graduating in 2013, he spent 7 years in general practice and developed a strong passion for surgery.

Luke has since undertaken a fellowship focusing on canine elbow dysplasia and elbow CT, later presenting this research at ANZCVS Science Week in both 2022 and 2023!

Dr Luke will be a great addition to our surgical team, he is available for consultations, imaging, and procedures on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays! 🩵

Sebaceous adenitis and Memphis 🩷

You might remember Memphis from our Dermatology procedure reel back in February.

We did a skin biopsy to determine what was causing his chronic itch, inflamed skin, hair loss, and recurring infections.

Fast forward to now, Memphis is showing a huge difference in both his appearance and personality - in the best way!

Sebaceous adenitis is a lifelong condition, but targeted treatment has resulted in:
• Dramatically reduced itching
• A softer, thicker coat
• Hair regrowth across most of his body

Memphis is feeling and looking like himself again - and that’s exactly why we do what we do 🙌🏼
