After working with 100's of women and couples I've noticed a big difference in supplement and nutrition advice from doctors and specialists vs a prenatal dietitian like myself.

I was speaking to an OB/GYN who said to me "Niki, we hardly get any training on supplementation in pregnancy so we just go with what's working".

Now, doctors have a lot on their plate. They are managing so much at once and to make them take on nutrition and supplementation just feels unfair to me. But it's also a big piece of the puzzle to just 'wing'.

This is why I find the best results for clients comes when doctors collaborate with prenatal nutrition specialists to give women the best of both worlds and make sure they are supported in every way.

What do you think? Have you had a similar experience? Or disagree completely? I'm keen to hear about your experiences so please share in the comments or DM me if you want to keep it private.

And if you're new here, I'm Niki - a fertility and pregnancy dietitian who supports women and couples on their journey to parenthood with personalised nutrition and supplement advice. After having kids myself and seeing how much outdated and confusing information was out there, I decided to specialise in this area and help others have the best pregnancy journey, similar to one I was lucky enough to have.

My DMs are always open if you have any questions.

I have worked with many couples who have struggled with infertility and let me tell you it frustrates me so much that nutrition education is hardly a talking point with their fertility team.

If you are struggling to fall pregnant, and you haven't done a full comprehensive blood test looking at your metabolic health and nutrient status as well as the same for your partner + s***m analysis + DNA fragmentation then the next step is NOT IVF (in my opinion).

This is how it should go:
1. Testing for both partners
2. Using the results to look at nutrition and lifestyle gaps and what needs to happen in order to produce the best quality s***m and egg.
3. Look into IVF if not successful with diet and lifestyle changes

This way, even if you end up needing IVF to fall pregnant, at least you have optimised both egg and s***m quality - increasing your chances of falling pregnant and staying pregnant.

Improving your nutrition and lifestyle is not a nice to have when trying for a baby, it's a must.

And if you're new here, I'm Niki - Australia's first dietitian to earn the Specialist in Prenatal Nutrition credential and I help couples who are wanting to fall pregnant optimise their nutrition and lifestyle to have the best chance at falling pregnant and staying pregnant.

I'll be covering this topic in more depth next week so hit follow if falling pregnant in the next 3-12 months is on your radar.

If you're trying to conceive or are already pregnant, you'll want to try this recipe - save for later!

As a fertility dietitian, this dessert ticks so many boxes:
- milk: contains B12, calcium, protein and fats
- gelatin: high in the amino acid glycine that helps to support your skin and gut lining (particularly helpful as your belly grows)
- chia seeds: a great source of fibre (goodbye pregnancy constipation)

Best of all, it hits the spot without sending your blood sugars on a rollercoaster 🎢

Panna Cotta recipe
- 3 tsp of gelatin (I like Cell Squared or Nutra Organics)
- 1/4 cup of water
- 500 mls of full cream milk (I use Norco Jersey Milk)
- 2 tbs of raw honey (I'm obsessed with the brand Raw Honey which I get through Part&Parcel)
- 1 tsp of vanilla extract

1. Mix the gelatin with water in a bowl and allow it to bloom and thicken for a few minutes
2. Add all ingredients into the saucepan mixing until gelatin has dissolved
3. Remove from heat and allow to cool a bit before pouring into 4 ramekins or glasses
4. Place in the fridge to set for a few hours

Chia jam
- 1 cup of frozen raspberries
- 1 tbs of chia seeds
- 1 tsp of sugar or 1 TBS of maple syrup
- 2 tsp of lime juice

1. Add frozen berries, lime juice and sugar or maple syrup to a small saucepan over low heat. Simmer gently until berries are soft.
2. Turn the heat off and then add chia seeds and stir every 5 minutes to prevent clumping. After about 20 minutes when the mixture has thickened, store in the fridge in a glass container until ready to use.

Enjoy xx

Deceptive marketing is everywhere- especially when it comes to food. We all need a degree to figure it out! That’s why I have created a live document of actual brands I use at home so next time you go grocery shopping, you can search the list for brands you can trust. Comment KITCHEN and I will personally send it to you.

The impact of environmental toxins found in plastics, PFAS and drinking water is getting a lot of media attention lately (for good reason). I have been slowly working on reducing our family’s exposure for years and created a simple way for my clients to slowly reduce their exposure too. If you want to learn more about how you can reduce your exposure to environmental toxins without the overwhelm, DM me and let’s chat 💬

I bang on about optimal vs. 'normal' blood results so I thought I would share an example.

Lab references are there to avoid disease.

For pregnancy, we want to aim for optimal so we can thrive not just survive.

If you want to explore how I can help you optimise your diet and supplement routine to go into pregnancy actually feeling good, DM me and let's chat.

I’ve never shared this before publicly as it is something I have struggled with for a long time but I hope it inspires even one person to look deeper and keep searching for the answers you’ve been looking for. I know how tempting it is to want to band aide your issues (trust me I wanted to so badly leading up to my wedding with terrible acne) but if you keep band aiding, you won’t be able to find the root cause or be motivated to find the solution (the pain of where you are must be greater than where you want to go in order to make a change). I also see this in my nutrition practice around unexplained or secondary infertility with clients being told ‘we don’t know what’s wrong and your only option is IVF’. Often women are told this without looking at their diet, environment, nervous system and even blood results in depth. There’s so much to explore here and I encourage you to continue to look for answers.

I used to find perfumes so luxurious, now, you couldn't even pay me to put that stuff on.

Once you understand how they're made and how bad they are for your body, it's pretty easy to give it up.

If you're trying to conceive or are already pregnant, this is the first thing I would ditch.

Especially if you have young kids/babies at home as their bodies can't detoxify as effectively as adults.

If you must wear it, keep it to only very very very special occasions.
