At GYFT, we consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to work with such a wide range of individuals, each with different strengths and abilities, and whom often remind us that "we are (often) limited only by our imagination, and will to act" - Ron Garan.

One such individual is Ben. Ben was one of our very first client's at GYFT, and despite Covid-19 and the limitations it's placed on his care and support, the past 18months has seen him consistently rise up to meet various challenges and grow from strength to strength. The month of September brings on Ben's next challenge - STEPtember, a fun and inclusive virtual event that challenges you to walk, swim, ride, wheel or spin your way to 10,000 steps per day, all while helping to improve the lives of children and adults who live with cerebral palsy".

For those in a position to donate to such a great cause, please see link below.

In these uncertain times, several things become clear:
1. The importance of maintaining health and wellness
2. Understanding what to prioritise and when.

At GYFT, we work in partnership with participants and carers to maintain consistency and continuity across their system of care.

We do this by creating:
- Individualised participant profiles to assist in the handover of important health and disability information and advanced directives to support the provision of services.
- Support continuity plans outlining the participants functional capacity, individual and support system risks and vulnerabilities (eg: reduced staff and staff retention particularly with COVID-19), how to prioritise support/services and implement changes to service delivery, and how to maintain physical and emotional needs until resumption.

To find out more about how we can support you, jump onto our web page www.gyft.online and arrange a free 30-minute consult with one of our coaches.

While participants are receiving plans more quickly under the NDIS, this doesn't guarantee their ability to access the (specialist) services they need once they have it. An example of this is access to Occupational Therapy.

For participants and families looking for Life Skills Coaching from an Occupational Therapist, we at GYFT provide hands on coaching to help participants understand their strengths and abilities, and provide therapy and skill development for working towards their goals particularly in areas such as:
1) Improving communication and decreasing social isolation
2) Understanding interests and how to broaden these for participation in the community
3) Maximising health and daily functioning, and minimising the negative impacts of disability on everyday life.

For more information about what our service provides, find us at www.gyft.online.

It's been a hot minute since our last post.. So what have we been up to? In short, taking stock.

We rounded our first year at GYFT a few months ago, and as with all new business, acknowledged that this journey of entrepreneurship was not always going to be smooth, and that goalposts might shift. That said, our PASSION for wanting to provide a model of coaching that bridges the gap between health and occupation has NOT changed. We are more MOTIVATED moving into 2020 to continue supporting people to understand themselves, and build the skills and confidence they need to develop their career and live life on their terms. But also... we're EXCITED about going back to our roots in health, and providing a service for those with disabilities to live a more connected and purposeful life.
