Meet Belinda – our Home Medicines Review Pharmacist

Meet Belinda Lishman, our experienced Home Medicines Review pharmacist!

A Home Medicines Review (HMR) is a Medicare-funded visit in your own home where Belinda reviews all your medications, vitamins and supplements to make sure they’re safe, appropriate and working well together.

Belinda then sends a report to your usual GP, who will discuss any recommendations with you.

HMRs are especially helpful if you have chronic health conditions or take multiple medications.

In a world so deeply focused on trends and "looking your best" or having the perfect "beach body", its important to dissect and dismantle the toxic stories sold to us in bright, alluring packages.

September is all about raising awareness and funds for women’s mental health.
This Liptember, let’s start conversations, break the stigma, and remind the women in our lives that they don’t have to face things alone. In our society, it can be so easy to let women fall through the cracks when it comes to care, whether they are battling menopause, just growing into their womanhood or somewhere in between. Sometimes a simple “How are you really going?” can make all the difference.
So, put on your favourite lipstick, wear it proudly, and help shine a light on an issue that affects so many women.

Hello world!
Year 7 and 10 school vaccines have been and gone, providing immunisation against HPV, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough and Meningococcal respectively. However, some teens might not have had the vaccine whether due to the fear of fainting in front of their peers or being away that day, so here at Preston Family Medical we have all the vaccines you missed available! You might even get a lollipop out of it :D

This is just a reminder to get your skin checked, even if its cold outside and it seems implausible for anything abnormal to appear in the depths of winter. Cold weather doesn't erase the UV damage done by the sun, and a skin check is always a good idea, just in case. Here at Preston Family Medical we have dedicated skin check days once a month on Saturday, so be sure to book yours today as you can never be too careful!

Hello World!
This month Step Up to Breast Cancer is running a fundraiser across the whole month to help support those affected with this disease. Everyday, 56 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer, so Step Up are challenging people to run or walk 56 kilometres to bring attention to this disturbing reality. 10,000 people have already signed up, with possibly more to come as the month progresses! At Preston Family Medical we can refer to BreastScreen for mammogram - but remember you don't need our referral, you can just call and book. BreastScreen is available from age 40 and promoted from age 50. We are always ready to discuss and assess any breast changes or symptoms however.

Hello world! This week is world diabetes week, a chance to celebrate and raise awareness for people living with this long-term chronic condition. Every day, 2 million Australians live with diabetes, managing something most people never fully see, and this week is an opportunity to acknowledge that. People with this condition generally are recommended to have a checkup every three months and advised to have continuity in their care, all services that we provide.
This national diabetes week, take the time to listen and talk to those in your life living with diabetes, and together we can work towards a healthier future – for everyone.
