Diabetes is one of the most common causes of preventable vision loss in Australia. Diabetic retinopathy affects the small blood vessels at the back of the eye and can progress silently before causing noticeable vision changes. By the time vision is affected, significant damage may already have occurred.
At Northern Eye Consultants, our medical retina subspecialists assess and manage diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema for patients across Melbourne's northern suburbs. Intravitreal injection therapy with anti-VEGF agents is the current gold standard treatment for diabetic macular oedema, the most common cause of vision loss in diabetic eye disease.
