⚠️ Trip hazards — items left where someone could easily trip or fall.

🔥 Burn hazards — hot items or appliances that could cause an injury.

🧹 Clutter — objects blocking walkways or making it difficult to move around safely.

🔌 Electrical hazards — damaged cords, overloaded power points or unsafe electrical items.

💧 Spills — wet or slippery floors that could cause a slip.

🙌 BONUS: Sometimes the biggest hazards are the ones we walk past every day because we’re so used to seeing them!

Some changes are coming – what you need to know.

From 1 October, some budgets will be reduced over the following 12 months in two support categories:
👉🏼 Social, Economic and Community Participation
👉🏼 Improved Daily Living Skills.
The impact will be different for every participant because every plan is based on individual goals, circumstances and support needs.
The reductions will be applied as plans are created or reassessed from 1 October 2026 or renewed from 1 February 2027.
This change is part of the new NDIS laws.

🤟 International Day of Sign Language 🌍💙

Today we celebrate the power of sign language — a rich, expressive form of communication that connects people across cultures and communities.

In Melbourne’s iconic Rainbow Alley, artist Gonketa has created a striking mural that places hands at the centre of communication. As Gonketa beautifully shared:

“Many people don’t realise how often they are already using their hands to communicate in day-to-day life.
I want passers-by to look at the hands on my mural, and look at their own, and be inspired to learn to sign.” https://loom.ly/RfUrpCM

Hands tell stories, express emotion, and build connection — with or without words. Today is a reminder that learning even a little sign language can make a big difference in creating a more inclusive world.

National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) 2026

“Art allows my mind to be free and discover things beyond what my eyes can see.” – Joe Monteleone

Artist Joe Monteleone, a proud member of the deafblind community, invites us behind the scenes of his creative process in a powerful short documentary by State Library Victoria.

The Library acquired Joe’s artwork Flinders St Station in 2023 and now features his story as part of the Monograph film series, celebrating creativity, inclusion, and the people behind the art.

This is especially meaningful as we recognise National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) 2026

A national week celebrating Deaf individuals, Australian Deaf culture, and Auslan (Australian Sign Language).
