It's Men's Health Week!

Mental health conditions don’t discriminate. People of all genders can experience depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. But they may look different in men.

Gender stereotypes and stigma can also make it harder for both men and their healthcare professionals to recognise when they might need mental health support.

Here’s the lowdown on all things related to men’s mental health, from identifying symptoms to finding the right kind of therapy.

Anyone can experience a mental health condition, but symptoms can look different in men. That means men often go undiagnosed. Here's how to get support.

Men's Health Week | 15th - 21st June 2026

Men's Health Week is celebrated every year around the world in the middle of June. It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of men's health, and to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our communities.

Men's Health Week focuses on not just physical health, but also men's mental health and emotional wellbeing. During the week, we highlight the health challenges faced by men in Australia and worldwide and run events that can be replicated year-round to improve the physical, emotional and mental health of men and boys.

Through a series of promotions, events and publicity around the country, Men's Health Week is designed to provoke thought and discussion about what needs to be done to improve male health.

How do you sleep at night? 💤

Are you a side, back, front sleeper?
Always wondered what the best (safest) position is?

No matter what position you lie in, the pillow should be under your head, not under your shoulders! Ideally, it should be of a thickness that allows your head to be in a ‘neutral’ position.

👉 Try to sleep in a position which helps you maintain the curve in your back (eg: on your back with a pillow under your knees or on your side with your knees slightly bent).
👉 Do not sleep on your side with your knees drawn up to your chest.
👉 Try to avoid sleeping on your stomach as this can often cause back and/or neck strain.
👉 When standing up from the lying position, turn on your side, draw up both knees and carefully swing your legs off the side of the bed.
👉 Slowly sit up by pushing yourself up with your hands.
👉 Avoid bending forward at your waist.

Managing Arthritis Pain and Stiffness During Winter 💥

As the days get colder, many people living with arthritis begin to notice their symptoms intensify.

While arthritis is a chronic condition, it can feel particularly difficult to manage when temperatures drop. Fortunately, Osteopathy can play a key role in helping you stay mobile and comfortable through the season.

Why Winter Makes Arthritis Worse
While the exact reasons aren’t fully understood, some theories suggest that lower temperatures lead to muscle tightening and reduced blood flow to extremities, while changes in barometric pressure can affect how joints feel and function. Additionally, people tend to be less active during winter, which can lead to more stiffness and discomfort.

Advice for Managing Arthritis at Home
In addition to treatment, our Osteopaths will guide you with at-home strategies to support your joints:

❄️ Stay active with low-impact movement like walking or swimming in heated pools
❄️ Use heat packs to soothe stiff joints
❄️ Layer up to keep muscles warm and reduce tightness
❄️ Practice daily stretches to maintain flexibility

If arthritis pain and stiffness are impacting your quality of life this winter, know that support is available. Our experienced team at CHH are here to help you stay active, comfortable, and supported, no matter the season.

Osteopathy - Toddlers and Adolescents

As children develop and explore during this period, they often test their bodies’ ability and resilience to the limit.

It is vital to ensure the stresses and strains they place on their bodies during play are not affecting their normal musculoskeletal development.

This is also an age where common muscle and/or joint conditions may develop (as a result of accidents, falls, sporting injuries or poor posture) and remain into adulthood. Commonly treated conditions include:

✨ Scoliosis (s-shaped curvature of the spine)
✨ Sporting Injuries
✨ Muscle strains and tears
✨ Headaches
✨ Knee pain (for example: Osgood Schlatters)
✨ Heel and Foot pain (for example: Sever’s Disease)
✨ Neck pain due to poor studying posture and/or computer use
✨ Back pain associated with lifting/carrying heavy school bags
✨ Repetitive injuries associated with rowing, swimming, tennis, gymnastics
✨ Injuries associated with playground falls and/or contact sports

Are you struggling with pain in your Shoulder, Hip, Elbow, Knee or Heel?
Are you worried your injury might mean arthritis or an operation?

💥 Bursitis is caused by the inflammation of a bursa, which is a small fluid-filled sac that acts as a cushion between bone and soft tissue. A bursa (plural bursae) reduces friction and assists joint movement.

🦵 When you overuse or injure a joint, a nearby bursa can become irritated or inflamed. As a result, the bursa fills with excess fluid, causing pain and a reduction of motion.

Our team at Canterbury Health Hub recognise how difficult and disruptive it is to manage day-to-day life whilst also managing and attempting to control your bursitis.
