What seeds did you plant in 2024 to make you ready for 2025?
Are there seeds you don’t like, that need to be pulled out, like bad habits that no longer serve you?
Are there seeds of potential, but you don’t yet have the confidence to see all that you could be, if only…?
Any seed needs to be tenderly cared for, watered, fed and loved, so that it can grow strong.
So will your confidence grow, if you keep tending your goal and each step you take with encouragement and tender, non-judgemental love, that will help you grow into all you could be.
And if you need a leg-up, talk to me.

I’m looking at everything I’m doing in my life with this in mind.
Does doing this bring me joy? If not, can I do something else instead?
Or do it another way? For example taking my computer outside on a lovely day will be more joyful than working in a stuffy office.
Going for a power-walk with a friend is more joyful than going alone.
It helps with decluttering: as you look at whether to keep or discard an item, ask yourself, does keeping this thing bring me joy?
Doing an unpleasant task to my favourite music makes it more enjoyable.
Is my thinking very negative, or could I learn to shift the way I think about things?
We all need a hand-up sometimes. Talk to me about how to make your life more of a joy to live in.

The holiday celebrations should be happy, loving times. But they are often tense occasions we dread.

Some people will use the gathering as an opportunity to provoke you, expecting you to fight back. If you become defensive, you end up being part of the problem.

Some people’s pain has been building up for some time, and they can’t help exploding when they see you.

Many people have asked me how to bounce back from burnout. We have no energy to ‘bounce’. Coming out of burnout is more like a slow creep.

Like me, you probably recognise when you’re stress levels are high and like me, you may have tried to soldier on. I hear myself telling others to take regular short breaks and learn to say ‘no’, but I was in a situation I couldn’t get out of. Like you, I had to press on.

Burnout is also called ‘Compassion Fatigue. If we’re working in crisis situations, or even just caring for a family, leaving no time for ourselves, we’re in danger of ‘Compassion Fatigue’. Our battery runs out, because we haven’t been able to care for ourselves.

Burnout creeps up on us so slowly,
we don’t realise we’re heading for trouble until we’re already in it.

Like you, I’ve allowed myself to get mentally, emotionally, and physically drained. I would describe coming out of burnout, depression, grief, or any other crisis, as being in a deep well made of clay. The clay is wet, so every time we try to climb out, we just slip down again.
It adds to the exhaustion that’s already taken hold.

The trick is to allow our batteries to recharge a bit, but how?

I found five key steps that helped me climb out of that slippery slope.

👩‍👧Your mother gave you life. She also gave you attitudes, values, and skills that shaped your life. You may have changed them later as you grew up, but she laid the foundations.

As you reflect on who you are, reflect on who she is, and the characteristics you inherited. 💚

Go back a generation to see how she was influenced by her mother 👵🏾, and the attitudes of the time or culture your grandmother grew up in, that she would have handed down to your mother and, through her, on to you.

The best way to acknowledge your mother is to find a gift that spoils her and gives her a rest and a treat.

A gift might be something you know she would enjoy but would never treat herself.

A family gathering is great, but don’t forget Mum is still often the one who organises and prepares meals.

Consider giving her a retreat, a special outing, a massage … whatever you can afford (maybe a joint gift with siblings) that shows her you’ve put some thought into it to say a meaningful “Thanks, Mum”!

It’s well known that every cause has an effect. Here’s the trick: it’s not only your behaviour or thoughts that create positive or negative karma: it’s your intentions as well.💝

Many people do kind acts so that good karma comes back to them.

That’s selfish. Their intention is to do something for themselves, not really to help anyone. So, the good karma from their good act is diluted proportionately.

Let’s say a parent negatively criticises their child. Is that bad karma? 🙀

To an extent, but if they’re coming from a place of love—if the parent’s intention is to teach or protect the child, then the bad karma they are creating by reducing the child’s self-esteem is diluted.

Of course, it’s dangerous to believe we know our subconscious intentions that well! We don’t.

We all make excuses for ourselves or convince ourselves that what we’re doing is right. 👍🏽

Other people influence us too easily because we don’t question enough.

The best way to get to know your subconscious is through tracking your feelings and your thoughts in your journal, even if only occasionally. 📔

Most importantly, ask yourself why you feel and think a certain way. There’s no need to judge yourself harshly. Just be curious to understand yourself better.💛

This is one part of the life lessons we all need to learn. I’ll talk about group or family Karma separately.

I look forward to seeing questions from some of you.

If you’re ready for new challenges, want a promotion, or perhaps to move across to a different field, you need to demonstrate your potential. Successful people are given opportunities because they get noticed. Quiet achievers get used.

📔 Start with a clear goal and plan. Search job ads to identify the requirements at that next level. Clarify the gaps in your skills and knowledge.🧠

Join the professional association in your field—they have a journal packed with information and guest speakers at their monthly networking events. 🌐

📚 Read books and articles by experts. Apply pointers in your personal and professional life wherever possible. Keep researching.

Attend short courses, even if only on YouTube feeds. Follow industry leaders on LinkedIn, TED Talks and social media. ►

Volunteer for relevant tasks or projects within your company or elsewhere. Build your reputation and your network.

Keep written evidence of how you help the business or client. Solve problems where you can. 📧

Deliver value consistently with everything you do.

Grow into the Subject Matter Expert in your team, if you can.

🗣 Meet with your manager to discuss promotion or growth opportunities. Prepare for the meeting by discussing your achievements backed with evidence. Let them know what you’re doing to fill gaps in your skills. Be clear on what experience or knowledge you want, to progress to the next level. Ask for training. ↗

As you build your skills, you build your bargaining power.

🌍 How do you know if you’re truly open to the best life can bring you? How do you know if you’re blocking new and wonderful things from entering your life?

🐰 Easter symbolises a time of renewal and rebirths.

Embrace new things as much as possible to shift your frequency. Notice how often you turn your nose up at something different.

🥬 Try new foods you’ve never tried before. You may not like them. That’s ok. At least you’ve tried.

🗺 Explore somewhere you’ve never been. Discover new information.

🗣 Talk to someone new.

🚫 At the same time, remove anything that blocks the flow of energy in your life.

🏠 At home, get rid of stuff you never use, but just clogs up your storage space. Make room for new goodies.

📓 A bit more challenging is to look at attitudes that keep you stuck. Negative attitudes like ‘I can’t/It’ll never work/nothing good ever happens to me…’

💜 Challenge judgemental biases about people—notice where in your history these biases come from. Open yourself up to new ideas, new conversations. Be curious.

🕹 Challenge old habits that have controlled you, and one by one, replace them with new habits you’ve chosen. It can be a big job, but you have to start somewhere!

🎁 Let this be the time you start to feel some fresh air circulating in your life. You might get a pleasant surprise!

💛 I wish you very happy new beginnings.

Let’s face it, there are days when things couldn’t get worse or feel worse.🌧 You can’t face anything, you feel like a failure and you just want to hide under the bed.🛌 The best thing to do is to give yourself a break. ☕️

Sometimes it just feels good to feel bad.😔

Embrace those feelings, without guilt. Have desert for breakfast🧇, cry😢, watch movies📽 all day... do anything to pamper yourself. No need to feel guilty or to push yourself to get over it.

Just do one small thing to help you recalibrate, when you’re ready: make a quick list of things you’d like to have completed within a month and how you’d like to feel about having done them.📓

That’s it. Then go back to crying, chocolate and corny movies.🍫

Your list will help refocus and uplift you when you’ve had a good rest.

And sometimes a good talk to a sympathetic ear also helps, so give me a call if it feels right. 💜

😐 After a conflict, the first priority is mutual understanding. Not mutual agreement, necessarily. Understanding of both perspectives will help you make an informed decision (alone or together) about what to do next.

Invite the person to talk it over. Don’t force. They may need more time to think.

👂🏽 Conversation No 1: Hear their story.

→ What information did you miss or don’t have access to?
→ What past experiences influence them?
→ What were their reasons or intentions?
→ How did your actions impact them?

→ What are they feeling?
→ What does this situation mean to them?
→ What do they think is contributing to the problem?

❤️‍🩹Conversation No 2: Express your views and feelings constructively.

That means without blaming. You hope they’ll understand, but you can’t count on it.
What’s important is that you get the chance to share your perspective, feelings and intentions.

🤲🏽Conversation No 3: Problem-solving together.

→ What would improve the situation going forward?
→ Can you brainstorm ways to satisfy both your needs?
→ What will you each negotiate or compromise?

You both need to be willing to approach the discussion in a mature way, without accusation. The focus is on how we can heal hurt feelings and find ways to stop the situation happening again.💙

I’m interested to know if you have any comments or other ideas.
