Coach Joe: Ay, my bru… howzit?

Him: Coach, I’m tired. I keep holding on to people who don’t even want to be in my corner no more.

Coach Joe: [leans in] Listen to me now. Until you let go of all the toxic people in your life, you will never grow to your fullest potential. You hear me?

Him: But Coach… it’s not that easy. These are people I’ve known for years.

Coach Joe: Years don’t mean loyalty, my broer. Time doesn’t equal worth. Some people been in your life ten years and never once watered your garden. They just been standing there, taking up space where flowers supposed to grow.

Him: So what must I do?

Coach Joe: If people want to go… let them go. You not losing them, my bru, you releasing yourself. Every time you hold onto a hand that’s already letting go of you, you keeping your other hand from reaching for something better.

Him: It’s scary though, Coach. Letting go feels like failing.

Coach Joe: No no no. Listen here, letting go is not failure. Letting go is faith. Faith that you don’t need everybody who came in your story to stay till the last chapter. Some people were only ever meant for a paragraph, not the whole book.

Him: [quiet] So I can grow… even if it means standing alone for a while?

Coach Joe: Especially then. That’s when you grow the most, in the quiet, after the goodbye. So let them go, my bru. Let them go… so you can grow.

A conversation between Coach Joe and Nomsa

Nomsa: Coach Joe, I saw something today that’s been sitting heavy on me. A post about a woman defending another man to her boyfriend, and how instead of taking his side, she calls him insecure.

Coach Joe: Ja, I saw that one too. And eish, it cuts deep because it’s true, mos. That’s not a small thing, Nomsa. That’s a whole revelation dressed up as an argument.

Nomsa: But Coach, isn’t it sometimes fair? Maybe the man really is being insecure. Maybe he’s the one in the wrong.

Coach Joe: Sometimes, yes. I won’t lie to you and say every man who feels some type of way is right. But listen carefully there’s a difference between “let’s talk about this” and “you’re the problem.” One is a disagreement. The other is a verdict. And when a woman skips straight to the verdict, without even sitting with what he’s feeling first, she’s telling you something. Not about him. About where his heart sits in her priorities.

Nomsa: So you’re saying it’s less about who’s right, and more about… whose corner she’s fighting from?

Coach Joe: Now you’re seeing it, Nomsa. A woman who loves a man properly, she feels his disrespect like it’s her own. She doesn’t need him to be perfect to defend him she just needs him to be hers. But a woman who’s already halfway out the door? She’ll find every reason under the sun to protect the other man’s name before she protects yours.

Nomsa: That’s heavy, Coach Joe. Because a lot of us, we make excuses for that. We call it “being fair” or “seeing both sides.”

Coach Joe: And that’s the trap, sisi. Being fair to a stranger while your own man stands there feeling like an outsider in his own relationship that’s not fairness. That’s abandonment wearing a nice word.

Nomsa: So what must a man do, when he sees it happening?

Coach Joe: He must watch, not argue. Words are cheap when the moment comes. But who she becomes in that moment lawyer for the other man, or lawyer for him that tells him everything. Don’t wait for years to find out whose name she’s willing to stand up for in a room full of strangers. Pay attention now. fans

Hey Ladies,

Not every man who flirts with you while knowing you’re in a relationship is admiring your value.

Sometimes he’s testing your boundaries.

There is a difference.

A person who respects commitment doesn’t try to compete with it. They respect the relationship before they pursue the person.

When someone knowingly crosses that line, ask yourself:
Is this really about my worth, or is it about my availability?

If you entertain attention that dishonors your relationship, you aren’t increasing your value. You’re revealing what you’re willing to negotiate.

Healthy boundaries don’t just protect your relationship.
They protect your character.

The strongest people aren’t those who attract the most attention.
They’re the ones who know which attention deserves no response.

And remember this…

A man who has no respect for your relationship today will likely have little respect for your commitment tomorrow if he ever becomes part of your life.

Real love doesn’t begin by asking someone to betray another person.

It begins with honor.

Protect what you prayed for.

Because loyalty isn’t proven when no one is looking.

It’s proven when temptation is.

High alert wasn’t a personality trait it was survival. So you studied every raised voice, every mood shift, every silence that lasted too long.

Now you question. You analyze. You read rooms like your life depends on it because once, it did.

That’s not paranoia. That’s a nervous system still asking: is it safe yet?

You’re not broken. You’re wired for war, in a world finally asking you to stand down.

Tag someone still learning to put the armor down.

NOT YOUR FAULT, STILL YOUR JOB — A Coach Joe Wake-Up Call

Yoh. Sit down. Properly.

Let's get one thing straight before we go further: I'm not here to tell you the wound was your fault. It wasn't. Somebody else swung that blade a parent, a partner, a friend who forgot the meaning of the word. That part isn't on you.

But hear me now, and hear me well: the healing? That's yours. All yours. Nobody's coming to collect it for you.

Ai, but Coach, it's not fair. I didn't ask for this scar.

No, you didn't. And life isn't fair, my bru, never has been. But fairness was never the deal on the table. The deal is this: someone can hand you a wound, but nobody can hand you the healing. That part you've got to carry yourself, one painful step at a time.

You can stand at the site of that wound for the next twenty years, pointing fingers, reciting the story word for word, waiting for an apology that may never come. And you'll be right the whole time. Right and still bleeding.

Or you can say: "This wasn't my doing. But it's my responsibility now." Not because it's just. Because it's yours to carry, and nobody else is strong enough to carry it for you.

That's the difference between a victim and a survivor, bru. Not what happened to them. What they picked up afterward.

Put the blame down where it belongs. Then pick your healing up because that part's got your name on it, whether you asked for it or not. fans

fans“TWENTY YEARS” — A Coach Joe Wake-Up Call

Yoh. Sit down. No, sit down properly, because what I’m about to say, you’re not going to want to hear standing up.

Twenty years, my bru. Twenty. Years.

You know what changes in twenty years? Toddlers become adults. Seeds become forests. Countries change their constitutions. And you? You’re still replaying an argument from 2006 like it’s a highlight reel.

Ai, but Coach, you don’t understand what they did to me.

No, you don’t understand what you’re doing to you.

That pain you’re so loyal to it doesn’t even remember your name anymore. You’re out here paying rent on a room somebody else moved out of two decades ago. Still sweeping the floors. Still fixing the curtains. For what? For who?

Picture it — that exact moment you slide into your new car, adjust the seat just right, and catch that fresh leather smell. That feeling is coming. Not if, when. Every hustle you’re putting in right now? It’s just closing the distance between you and that seat.

Can I tell you something.

“I miss you” and “I need you”, they’re not the same thing.

One means… I felt something when you walked out that door. The other one means there’s a gap in me. And I’m hoping you’ll stand in it.

I used to think the second one was love.

It’s not.

It’s just hunger. Dressed up nice.

You know what got me, though?

Someone once told me, “I built a whole life. And I still want you in it.”

Not “I can’t survive without you.” Not “you complete me.”

Just… I’m whole. And I choose you anyway.

That’s the one to chase. Not the one that burns hot for three weeks and leaves you both wrecked.

The one that’s still warm. Three years in. When nobody’s watching. When there’s no audience.

You don’t need somebody to complete you.

You need somebody who doesn’t flinch… when you’re already whole.
