And no, you don’t need any experience to come along - hint, most people don’t.

Watch to see a little of what a circle looks like, then come breathe with me in Lawson, Blue Mountains, this Spring.

In FBR we work with the body, we don’t override it.

Sometimes the breath doesn’t move where you expect it to. The chest stays guarded, or the belly won’t soften. That’s not something to push through or fix - it’s information. A protective mechanism that’s often been doing its job for a very long time.

Rather than forcing the breath into an area, we gently guide and invite it instead, allowing the body to decide the pace.

If you’re curious to experience this for yourself, join me for circle or a private 1:1 session here in the Blue Mountains, or drop me a message if you’ve got questions first.

Early in the aftermath of Chris’s death, I was watching a video he’d sent me of himself clowning around and found myself laughing and crying all at once.

I’d already been immersed in breathwork and somatic therapies for years leading up to that moment.

I realised then and there, so early in my apprenticeship with grief, the profound work I’d done in preparing my system for this challenge.

This isn’t to say it wasn’t an incredibly difficult time for me, or that I still don’t have moments of collapse.

It’s just pointing to a deep knowing within - that I can move forward with grief in one hand and joy in the other.

It’s knowing that this practice continues to support me in ways others will never fully know, but I feel every day.

The reverence I feel towards FBR, and towards grief itself, is immense - and it just keeps growing.

If this speaks to you, I’m here.

There’s something different that happens when we breathe in circle.

It offers a space to witness and be witnessed - to hear your own story echoed in someone else’s laughter, tears, or quiet insight.

Beneath our different circumstances, so many of us are navigating similar questions, hopes, and longings. Circle doesn’t ask us to have the same experience - it just makes room for us to share in the experience of being human.

This is one of the reasons I keep gathering people in circle.

Words can only take us so far.

In a 1:1 space, there’s more room to talk before we move into breath - more time to arrive, to explain what’s going on for you.

And often, talking only gets us so far.

Sometimes words fall short and our bodies do better using their own unique language.

Sometimes what we actually need is to feel witnessed and safe enough to be with whatever’s arising - and being witnessed and held is often what allows our systems to let that happen.

Touch work can offer what words try to reach for, but can’t quite get to.

Many people come to breathwork as a way to relax. Interestingly, breathwork isn’t always relaxing.

In FBR, our sessions tend to follow a bell curve. The first half activates the nervous system, building toward a peak. The second half allows for integration and rest.

Along the way, that can look like a lot of different things. Sometimes tears. Sometimes energy, even a kind of restlessness. Sometimes discomfort passing through before it settles. Sometimes very little seems to happen at all.

So while most people experience moments of real relaxation in a session, there are also moments of activation and intensity, and both are part of the process, not a detour from it.

We think of this as training the nervous system toward flexibility, the capacity to move into activation, and to just as readily move back out of it.

In life, we need to be able to activate when it’s called for. To run. To meet a deadline. And then, afterwards, to actually come back down again.

Have you noticed the way your breath and body respond to different stimuli?

How we might gasp and contract when something startles us.

How our shoulders shrug up and down when we’re laughing uncontrollably.

How our ribcage doesn’t flare when we’re feeling stressed or threatened.

How introducing rapid breath can bring on feelings of anxiety just from changing the breath itself.

When you lay down to breathe, we invite you to start consciously connecting your breath. From there, various breath patterns and patterns of tensioning start moving through the body.

There’s nothing “wrong” with this. There’s nothing to fix.

As practitioners, we’re tracking these shifts. We’re right there with you, witnessing them, meeting them, and when appropriate, offering them a new way.

Because maybe your body has been breathing in that startled pattern long after the threat has moved on.

Maybe when you lay down to sleep at night, you don’t need to be breathing at the same volume you were on your run this morning.

A breath pattern that serves us in one moment may not serve us in the next.

Connected breathing — what does it actually mean, and why does it matter in FBR? 🫁

It’s a specific technique (Conscious Connected Breathwork), but the technique isn’t the whole point.

The point is curiosity — using breath to notice what’s happening in your body and mind that usually runs on autopilot.

No forcing. No chasing an experience. Just paying attention.

That’s the heart of FBR.
