This episode explores the often unspoken part of fertility, what happens when you start thinking about moving on. CREI fertility specialist Dr Raelia Lew shares why this decision can feel more complex than creating embryos or freezing eggs in the first place. For many, what’s in storage represents possibility, which is why so many people hold on for years, even when their family may be complete.

We talk through what this next chapter can look like, from extending storage to making the decision to discard or donate. It’s a deeply personal process, often tied to identity, timing and emotion, and there’s no single right answer.

What happens when the path to parenthood looks different from what you imagined? In this episode of Knocked Up, CREI fertility specialist Dr Raelia Lew explains donor conception and the extraordinary ways families can be created through donor s***m, donor eggs or donor embryos.

We discuss who might consider donor conception, the emotional and legal considerations in Australia, and the careful screening and counselling that supports families along the way. Most importantly, we talk about what many hopeful parents worry about most: connection. As Dr Raelia explains, the bond between parent and child goes far beyond genetics, and for many families, donor conception becomes the beginning of a deeply loved and meaningful story.

At , we spend our days supporting women through some of the biggest moments of their lives.

So this week, for International Women’s Day, we celebrated the women who shaped us.

Each member of our team brought a plate inspired by a woman in their life - a mum, grandmother, sister or friend. Some were recipes passed down through generations. Others were simple dishes filled with memories.

Because behind every woman is often another woman who helped her become who she is.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at WHM

March is dedicated to raising awareness and supporting those affected by endometriosis
as part of Endometriosis Awareness Month in March.

Endometriosis is a serious cause of infertility. However the organs affected by endometriosis are also the organs required for future fertility. These include the ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes.

Endometriosis surgery for women seeking future fertility must be conservative and
nuanced to preserve fertility.

Women with endometriosis are universally recognised as fitting medical criteria for egg
freezing for fertility preservation.

All young women with severe endometriosis deserve to be referred to a CREI fertility
specialist to discuss and proactively plan for their future fertility goals.

If you’re not ovulating regularly, or you’ve been trying without success, ovulation induction (OI) and intrauterine insemination (IUI) are often the first treatments discussed before IVF. In this episode, we unpack what ovulation actually is, why some women don’t ovulate reliably and how medication can safely recreate the hormonal sequence needed to release an egg.

Dr Raelia also explains where intrauterine insemination fits in, who it’s right for and why it’s not simply “the turkey baster method”. From success rates to risks, monitoring and when to move on, this conversation will help you understand your options and what might be the right next step for you.

An important message for women with endometriosis who seek to conceive and face infertility.

Many think of IVF as an invasive treatment they prefer to avoid. Here are some important facts:

IVF is a reasonable first line treatment for many women with endometriosis.

Compared to laparoscopic surgery, IVF is considered minimally invasive as eggs are gently aspirated using an ultrasound guided fine needling technique (transvaginal oocyte
retrieval).

IVF is a highly effective treatment for endometriosis-related infertility. We can bypass factors such as blocked fallopian tubes and the influence of pelvic inflammatory
pelvic changes.

Endometriosis can lower IVF success rates compared to in women without the disease (by
lowering oocyte yield, association with reduced egg quality, and in some women impaired
implantation).

However, many women with endometriosis will still achieve successful pregnancy through
IVF, especially with specialised management using an advanced IVF laboratory as we have
