Behind the development in the North Richmond Precinct, many residents are navigating something much more personal - moving home, and for some, leaving a community they've called home for years. For residents already managing limited English, low digital literacy, or complex health and social needs, the challenges are even greater. Our Community Hub team has been right there with them - supporting residents through the move while continuing their everyday work for the broader community.

The team has been helping residents settle into their new homes, navigate MyGov and Centrelink, and connect to extra support when they need it. Between January and March, the team helped with over 2,300 engagements with people in our community.

In addition to the relocation support, the Hub is also home to weekly activity and wellbeing groups, youth programs and our new Community Paramedic service. The team also supports our weekly Community Grocer market which run every Wednesday 8:30am – 12:30pm out the front of 106 Elizabeth Street.

There’s only two days left to get a breast screen at the BreastScreen Victoria mobile screening van.

We’ve had an amazing turn out over the last week, including a phenomenal 22 visits on Wednesday last week!

We’re thrilled to see so many community members and clients get behind this program and ensure they put their health first. Breast screening early, before cancer is still too small to feel, even by a doctor increases the likelihood of better health outcomes. Having the mobile van on-site providing free breast screens has been an incredible opportunity. For many women, it’s the first time they’ve been screened. Programs like these do so much to help close health equity gaps by giving women in our community lasting access to potentially lifesaving scans they might not otherwise access, providing peace of mind, and earlier treatment if needed.

The van will be visiting the following hours on the two remaining days it’s here on-site:

🗓️ Tuesday 23 June: 9:20am - 3:40pm

🗓️ Wednesday 24 June: 9:20am - 12:20pm

And as an added bonus everyone who gets a screen also receives a goodie bag courtesy of BreastScreen Victoria.

For more details about the mobile screening van and details on how to make an appointment, please visit nrch.com.au/free-breast-screens

🩷 If you aren't able to fit in a vist to the van, the nearest BreastScreen Victoria locations can be found at East Melbourne BreastScreen and St Vincent’s BreastScreen. For more details visit 👉breastscreen.org.au/locations/ or call 13 20 50.

This week we celebrated Men’s Health Week. Kicking off with our regular 10am Men’s Walking Group, then we headed back to the Community Hub for an information session, a chat and an amazingly delicious lunch.

Dr Jordan came along for a chat with the men who attended, covering important topics for our community, including:
✅Prostate cancer
✅Bowel screening
✅Erectile dysfunction
✅Mental health
✅Healthy eating and exercise
✅Lung cancer screening for smokers

We also heard from Nicholas, one of our Community Paramedics, who’s recently started running this clinic out of the Community Hub. A previous participant shared how easy the program was to access, and how friendly and thorough the Community Paramedics were.

If you'd like to check it out yourself, the Community Paramedic clinic runs at the Community Hub, 110 Elizabeth Street: Mondays 12pm–3pm (drop-in) and Tuesdays 10am–1pm (appointment only). It's there to support adults with preventing and managing long-term health issues.

This year, Refugee Week marks its 40th anniversary, coinciding with Australia reaching an historic milestone – welcoming its millionth refugee since the end of World War II.

Many people in our community come from refugee backgrounds, having fled war, violence and persecution. At a time when governments around the world are scaling back on their humanitarian commitments, it’s more important than ever to make sure that everyone in our community – no matter where they’re from – feels welcome and supported.

This week is National Reconciliation Week 2026 (27 May - 3 June) 🖤💛❤️

The theme this year is ‘All In’ - a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

At North Richmond Community Health, many of our clients and community members are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and their health and wellbeing is central to everything we do. Reconciliation is not just a week on the calendar for us - it is part of our everyday commitment to providing safe, culturally responsive care and advocating for health equity for First Nations people.

This week and every week, we stand with our First Nations community members, clients, and colleagues.

We're excited to introduce our new CP@clinic - a free Community Paramedic service now running at the North Richmond Community Hub!

CP@clinic is an evidence-based program delivered in collaboration with La Trobe University and McMaster University - and we're proud to be the first health service in metropolitan Melbourne to bring it to our community.

By supporting people early - before health conditions become more serious - our Community Paramedics work alongside GPs and other health professionals to make sure our community gets the care they need, when they need it.

We are thrilled to welcome Community Paramedics Keli and Nicholas to our team. They are here to help adults in our community with a range of services to support their health and wellbeing, including:

✅ Management of long-term health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and more
✅ Health checks
✅ Mental health check-ins
✅ Support with personal health goals
✅ Referrals to other health professionals and services

Come and visit our CP@clinic:
📍 North Richmond Community Hub, 110 Elizabeth Street, Richmond
📅 Monday 12pm–3pm (drop-in)
📅 Tuesday 10am–1pm (appointment only)

The clinic is free, no Medicare card is needed, and interpreters are available in any language at no cost - because we believe everyone deserves easy access to health care.

Tomorrow is International Nurses Day - and we want to celebrate the incredible nurses at North Richmond Community Health!

Our nurses work across Medical Services, AOD Outreach, our Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR) and the Inner Melbourne Post Acute Care (IMPAC) team. Every day they deliver trusted, person-centred care to some of our community's most marginalised members.

Here's what a few of them had to say:

💬 Imogen (Medical Services): "I knew I had found my place in healthcare when I started working in community health. I love getting to know people over years and making small differences to a person's life every day - I believe that's what makes the big impact."

💬 Harriet (AOD Outreach): "Working with disadvantaged communities means making sure the people who are often overlooked are heard. We will never stop fighting for equality in healthcare and breaking down stigma to ensure everyone feels empowered in their own healthcare."

💬 Molly (MSIR): "I enjoy establishing rapport and building trusting relationships with our clients. Many of our MSIR clients fall through the gaps in healthcare, so I see my role as bridging those gaps - both as a nurse and in my leadership role within the team."

Thank you Imogen, Harriet, Molly, and all of our nurses for the care and commitment you bring every single day. 💙

Today is International Harm Reduction Day. This day recognises the essential work being done to support people who use drugs - meeting them where they are, without judgement, and delivering practical, evidence-based programs that reduce harm, save lives, and treat every person with dignity and respect.

We asked Cari, Team Leader of our Outreach and Engagement team, to share why he works in harm reduction - and he said it better than we ever could:

"Harm reduction is the ethos that 'no one is disposable' in action. I work in harm reduction because I believe that all people, regardless of what we've been through, have a fundamental right to life, dignity, autonomy and self-determination.

Harm reduction meets people where they're at and trusts people as the experts on their own lives. When practiced through a liberatory framework, it empowers people to be in the driver's seat of their lives and wellbeing.

It is the acknowledgement that we are all in this together, that no one should be left behind, that we all deserve care, and that we all have a responsibility to look out for each other."

On this day, we honour everyone working toward a world where no one is left behind. 💚
