10: The Shock of Regression đ
One of the most heart-wrenching signs we saw wasnât a missed milestoneâit was a total reversal.
I remember him playing by passing the ball to his brother, eating with his hands, even reciting the alphabet A-Z perfectly. Then, slowly, it all started to vanish.
Suddenly, he stopped playing together, wouldnât share, and preferred to be alone. Eating became a battleâhe couldnât stand the mess on his hands and became completely dependent on us to feed him, often needing a screen just to sit down. His speech? Gone.
We knew we had to act. We started private Speech Therapy in May 2022 while waiting for our NDIS to kick in. It felt like an uphill battle, but seeing the small victories makes every struggle worth it.
Look at him now! ⨠He eats meals without a screen (a HUGE win!). ⨠His speech is amazingâhe tells me two bedtime stories every night! (Yes, the child tells the mum the story! I wouldnât trade it for anything.) ⨠He and his brother are back to playing, even doing swim sessions together where he rides him like a monkey on a crocodile! (Any one remember The Monkey and the Crocodile story? If not, look it up! Itâs one of his faves. đ)
