Submissions are now open for the 2027 APS College of Counselling Psychologists Conference, to be held in Melbourne on 25–26 February 2027.

This year’s theme is:

Counselling psychology in complex times: Relational depth in practice

It feels like a meaningful theme for the time we are living and working in.

Technology, AI and screens are now part of everyday life, including how we communicate, learn, work and access support. Alongside these changes, there remains something deeply important about coming together; to think, listen, share ideas, and be reminded of the human connection at the heart of counselling psychology.

This conference is an opportunity to gather as a profession, share practice and research and reflect on what it means to work relationally in complex times.

Submissions are welcome from psychologists, researchers, supervisors, educators, registrars and students across areas of practice, research, training, supervision, ethics, community work and relational approaches.

The Psychology Board of Australia’s Education Reform consultation closes on Wednesday 10 June.

The APS has now circulated its submission, and the National Executive of the Counselling College supports it.

To help members prepare their own submissions, we have also developed 3 resources:
- a 2-page summary of the key proposed changes.
-a response outlining key issues for members to consider.
- the same content formatted to match the consultation submission template.

We encourage members to read the consultation paper closely and, where relevant, make their own submission to AHPRA before 10 June.

Our view is that several important parts of the proposal need much greater detail and clearer evidence, including:
- placement supply
- training standards for general registration
- reduced research focus in degrees
- the proposed employer-driven focus of AoPE training.

The possible flow-on effects for the public and for organisations employing psychologists also need careful consideration.

Any member of the public can provide feedback, and there is also a shorter consultation survey for those with limited time.

As we move full steam ahead into 2026, we would like to congratulate all members of our community who achieved dual endorsement in 2025, a significant professional milestone.

We often receive enquiries about CPD requirements following dual endorsement. To clarify, holding dual endorsement does not require additional CPD hours with AHPRA beyond your usual requirements. However, you must demonstrate relevance to both endorsed areas through a learning plan and activities, including 10 hours of peer consultation and 20 hours of other activities, with flexibility to allocate consultation hours across endorsements as needed, while maintaining detailed records for potential audits.

This is a friendly reminder that the WA section of the College will be holding our Annual General Meeting (AGM) online next Thursday, 4th December at 6:30pm (Perth time).

Regarding the Zoom details, a full meeting link has been emailed to members. We hope you can join us as we reflect on the year, share updates, and look ahead together.

In addition, the counselling psychology community wishes to extend a warm congratulations to Dr Kelly Gough on his appointment as APS President, a wonderful achievement.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM next week.

Dear WA Members,

As another year draws to a close the WA team wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to each of you for your dedication, compassion, and commitment to the practice of Counselling Psychology.

We warmly invite WA members to join us for our WA Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 4 December 2025, from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM (via Zoom). While we may not be sharing the same pot of tea or plate of biscuits in person, it will still be wonderful to see familiar faces on screen as we connect, reflect, and plan for the year ahead.

We’ll share updates on APS activities and welcome your thoughts and ideas for 2026. Your presence, even through the pixels, truly makes a difference.
