🎙️ Listening for connection

In the latest episode of Subject for Change, we’re joined by Dr Michelle Andrews Luke, Educational and Developmental Psychologist, child therapist and academic at the University of Melbourne.

Drawing on more than 20 years’ experience working with children, families and schools, Michelle explores the role of relationships and active listening in child therapy, and what it means to help children feel genuinely seen, heard and valued.

The conversation draws on Michelle’s new book, A Guide to Relationship-Oriented Child Therapy: The Art of Listening for Connection, which offers practical strategies, case examples and 50 suggestions for building meaningful therapeutic connections with children and their families.

✨ Editorial Highlights | Educational and Developmental Psychologist Journal ✨

What does it really mean to say that Educational and Developmental Psychologists “play nicely” with other disciplines?

In this editorial, Editor-in-Chief Dr Kelly-Ann Allen explores the transdisciplinary foundations of Educational and Developmental Psychology, reflecting on the profession’s unique ability to bridge research and practice to create meaningful, real-world outcomes.

This thought-provoking editorial considers:
• The rich history and evolution of Educational and Developmental Psychology
• Why collaboration across disciplines is central to our profession
• The importance of connecting scholarly research with professional practice
• How transdisciplinary approaches can strengthen outcomes for children, families, schools and communities

As Dr Allen writes:

“The well-established positioning of educational and developmental psychology as both an area of professional practice and a topic of scholarly research means that it is well placed to continue forging links between professional and scholarly perspectives.”

What does transdisciplinary practice mean to you? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
