💥SHOCKWAVE THERAPY💥

So, what is it and why do we use it?

Shockwave delivers mechanical energy to an area of pain to help stimulate the body’s natural healing and recovery processes.

Some potential benefits include:
🩵 Can help reduce pain and sensitivity
🩵 Can support tendon and tissue rehabilitation
🩵 May help improve local blood flow and tissue response
🩵 Can help tissues tolerate load and movement again
🩵 Can be useful alongside an exercise-based rehab program

We commonly use it for persistent tendon and soft tissue problems, particularly when symptoms have been hanging around and aren’t responding to exercise alone.

It’s not a magic fix. We use shockwave as one part of a bigger treatment plan, alongside load management, strengthening and getting you back to what you love.

If your pain has been sticking around, shockwave may be one option worth discussing with your practitioner.

Tennis elbow rehab doesn’t have to be complicated.

We hear patients all the time say ‘I just don’t have the time’…

A few simple, manageable exercises can go a long way, and you don’t need fancy equipment or hours in the gym.

The biggest mistake? Waiting for it to “just go away”.

Start small, build gradually, and give your elbow a chance to get stronger.

Tennis elbow can’t always be a quick fix. So let’s break it down for you.

🩹📖Settle + Educate
First, we reduce irritation, understand what’s driving the pain and adjust your load — without completely stopping everything you love.

🏋🏽‍♀️💪🏼Load + Strengthen
Once things are settling, we progressively load the tendon and build its capacity to handle more. This is where strength becomes the focus.

🌟🤸🏼‍♀️Return to Activity + Confidence
The goal isn’t just to be pain-free, it’s to trust your elbow again. We gradually reintroduce the movements, work and activities you want to get back to.

Because the end goal isn’t simply “less pain”… it’s a stronger, more confident elbow that can handle life again.

We tend to get confused on what causes Tennis Elbow, because we think we don’t lift heavy weights or surely we can’t be doing that much…

Well turns out the elbow and forearm muscles do a lot more than we realise. The part where the tendons responsible for all of this movement then becomes overloaded.

Overload can simply mean doing more, more often, or more intensely than the tendon is currently prepared for.

And the answer? Not stopping forever. 🙅‍♀️

Sometimes we need a short period of offloading. What is that?

It is reducing aggravating activities, modifying how you use the arm, or even using a brace to give things a chance to settle.

But the long-term goal is building the tendon’s capacity back up. 💪

Less pain👉🏼 gradual loading👉🏼 more strength 👉🏼 better tolerance.

Your tendon doesn’t need complete rest forever.
It needs the right amount of load, progressed at the right time.

If opening a jar hurts more than your workout… you might have tennis elbow 🫵🏼🫣

And no, you don’t need to play tennis to get it. In fact, most people with tennis elbow have never stepped onto a court.

Tennis elbow develops when the tendon on the outside of your elbow is overloaded by repetitive gripping, lifting, twisting, or pulling. Whether it’s gym training, using tools, typing all day, gardening, or picking up the kids, these everyday movements can eventually become too much for the tendon to handle.

It often starts as a ni**le but can progress to pain with simple tasks.

The good news? Tendons are incredibly adaptable. With the right treatment, education, and a progressive strengthening program, most people make an excellent recovery and return to the activities they love.

👉🏼 Swipe through to learn what tennis elbow is, the common symptoms, what causes it, how long recovery usually takes, and how osteopathic treatment can help.
