RESTORATIVE BODY PRACTICE — SUPPORT YOUR BREATH 🌿
The way you breathe can influence your nervous system, your posture, your airway health, your lymphatic system and your physical tension.
You can support your functional breathing by;
- Breathing through your nose as much as possible
- Breathing low into your diaphragm and belly, rather than into your upper chest
- Breathing lightly and slowly
A great exercise to start with is to;
😮💨 Take a moment to observe your breathing, focusing only on your breath
1️⃣ Count your breath in, and your breath in. Notice which is longer or if they’re the same
➕ Increase your exhale by 1 count (so if you were 5 in, 5 out, move to 5 in, 6 out)
🔍 Notice how that feels and continue this count
➕ Increase your exhale again, if comfortable (now 5 in, 7 out). If that feels comfortable, you can keep extending your exhale. When it feels uncomfortable, go back to the previous exhale number that was comfortable and stay there for a while.
One breathing exercise might not change your world; but small, consistent inputs can create lasting change for your breath, body and mind.
