Here at The Verge Burleigh, we always Love 👩❤️👨a great romantic story. Congratulations to Brian and Suzan on 60 years of wedded bliss.
Suzan and I – Our Journey Together
In December 1961, Suzan and I were first introduced by our respective friends in Evans Head, NSW.
We were invited to accompany our friends to see a movie at the Vogue Theatre in Lismore. (Sorry, we do not remember what the movie was!) We enjoyed one another’s company that night and remained friends for the rest of that summer.
In 1963, I worked at PTL in Brisbane while Suzan worked at Northern Star/NBN in Lismore. She later worked at the Commonwealth Bank before moving to Newcastle to be with her parents, who had relocated there for work.
We kept in contact through letters and occasional meetings in Brisbane and Newcastle.
We became engaged on Suzan’s 21st birthday in 1965 and were married in Newcastle on 20 August 1966.
During our marriage, we have lived in many places:
Brisbane – 6 months
Ballina – 1 year
Newcastle – 2 months
Canberra – 2 years
Beograd, Yugoslavia – 2 years
Beijing, China – 1 year
Canberra again – 6 years
Gold Coast – 45 years
For most of our married life, Suzan supported my career in security, while also working in banking with Westpac.
During my career, I worked with the Commonwealth Police Force for 11 years, the Australian Federal Police for 11 years, ANA Security for 3 years, Bond University Security for 2 years, and Gold Coast City Council Security for 12 years.
The Secret to Our Longevity
If you were to ask us what has been the reason for the longevity of our marriage, our answer would be:
Apart from maintaining our wedding vows, nurturing honesty, accountability, unselfishness, and unconditional love and support is essential.
On a More Personal Note...
I wish to thank Suzan for her unselfish support and love over all these years. She has kept me grounded, for which I am forever grateful.
Coming from a dysfunctional family, I have been, and still am, deeply humbled and honoured to have been loved, accepted and welcomed unconditionally by Suzan, her family and relatives.
Since we were so fortunate to first meet in 1961, I have always loved you, Suzan, and wished for you to be my life partner.
I will never forget your beautiful, adoring smile and your shining eyes.
You are, and will forever remain, in my heart.
Happy 60th Wedding Anniversary, my darling Suzan.
After all these years, I would still choose you.
