Post-Concussion Syndrome
The majority of concussions (70-80%) will see significant recovery from symptoms in around 10-14 days, with often full resolution by 28 days.For those that continue past 4 weeks, persistent concussion symptoms can develop.
This is often termed Post-Concussion Syndrome.
And it’s more than a lingering headache. Symptoms can be widespread and affect multiple systems within the body. After all, concussion is a traumatic brain injury, so there’s a lot that can be affected.
Symptoms can include:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Irritability
- Anxiety
- Difficulty sleeping
- Loss of concentrationg and memory
- Ringing in the ears
-Blurry vision
- Noise and light sensitivity
- Appetite changes
- Poor balance
- Reduced exercise tolerance
Often these symptoms will vary greatly between people, with some being worse than others.
Understanding which ones affect you most is important for knowing where to start.
