Sometimes I sit and wonder how many people are living with symptoms they’ve convinced themselves are “nothing serious.”
A little blood in the toilet. Changes in bowel habits. Ongoing abdominal pain. Unexplained weight loss.
Too often, these symptoms are brushed off as stress, ageing, haemorrhoids, a busy lifestyle, or something that will just “sort itself out.”
But bowel cancer doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it whispers.
As a nurse, I think about the people who delayed getting checked, and how different their story may have been if they had sought help sooner.
Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, and it’s increasingly affecting younger people. Early detection saves lives.
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Don’t wait. Get checked.
It costs nothing to share awareness. It could mean everything to someone who needs to hear it.
