⚠️ NDIS plan reassessments have changed. Here’s what you need to know.

Under the new NDIS laws, a request for a plan reassessment can now only be made by:
• the participant
• their nominee
• a child representative
• an appointed guardian
This means people such as support coordinators can no longer make the reassessment request themselves, although they can still support a participant or nominee to make one.

The grounds for requesting a reassessment have also narrowed. The forum legal experts explained that requests now need to relate to a significant and ongoing change to functional capacity and support needs, or living arrangements.
There’s another major change to timing.

The NDIA now has 90 days to decide whether to reassess a plan, up from 21 days.
If the NDIA doesn’t make that decision within 90 days, it is deemed to be a refusal. That refusal is a reviewable decision, meaning you can request an internal review.

There are still serious questions about how this will work for people who cannot make a request themselves and don’t have a nominee. We’ll be watching this closely.

The AFP will host free ThinkUKnow online safety webinars during National Child Protection Week from 6-12 September.

The 90-minute sessions, including time for questions, will help parents, carers, educators and the wider community better understand the online environment and safe behaviours for young people.

Topics will include:
* How children and young people use technology and social media.
* Apps, games and online platforms.
* Online grooming and child sexual exploitation.
* Self-generated child abuse material.
* Sexual extortion (sextortion).
* Online challenges and emerging risks.
* Practical strategies to help keep children and young people safe online.
* Reporting pathways and support services.

There will also be practical tools and resources to start conversations about online safety, build digital resilience, and respond appropriately if a child experiences harm online.
