We're were incredibly grateful to receive a donation of $5,000 from the Rotary Club of Millicent which is unfortunately winding up.

Presenting the cheque today was Millicent Rotary Club Treasurer, Josie Skeer.

We will be using the funds to renovate our courtyard between our Kintore and Wyndemere Wings including the installation of a large gazebo and lawned area for resident activities.

Receiving the cheque were our Director of Care, Jo McGregor, Lifestyle Coordinator, Deb Cavanagh and resident Ian who has contributed greatly to the courtyard re-design.

Thank you Millicent Rotary members, we are sorry you are winding up but will make sure the money donated will result in a courtyard that will be well used by residents for many years.

It was a beautiful clear and sunny morning in Millicent today. Perfect weather for an ice bath for some of our lucky people.

We had great fun raising over $1,300 for Motor Neurone Disease research through our Big Freeze challenge.

Millicent North Kindy joined us and also collected over $300 in donations towards this worthy cause.

4 of Boneham's team and one of Millicent North Kindy's team underwent the Ice Bucket challenge. If you listen closely you may still hear their screams echoing hours later alongside the laughter of residents, children and staff who watched on with glee.

Thanks to Chambers Fresh Fish for the donation of the ice and thanks to all who donated or paid to be a bucket tipper on the day. Thanks also to Deb and our residents for coming up with a great fundraiser!

With the recent passing of former Australian of the Year - Neale Daniher OAM, we thought Boneham could do our bit to help raise some money towards research into Motor Neuron Disease.

4 of our team have volunteered to get an ice bath dunking next Thursday 11th June at 10.45am if we raise enough money for the cause.

Please consider a donation in our collection jars at our reception area when you are next in and you are welcome to join us for the great "dunking" next Thursday

Today we celebrate International Nurses Day with our team at Boneham.

Our nurses provide more than clinical care. They are team leaders, medication experts, doctor liaison, family supporter, care planners and a friendly voice to concerned residents and carers.

We thank each of our nurses for working with us to support the older residents of our community.

You are all healthcare heros.

A big thank you to Susan Pretty for organising a fantastic World Hand Hygiene Day with many fun facts, quizzes, and prizes, along with the colouring competition — congratulations to all the winners.
We would also like to thank Millicent Chemist & Gifts, Toy Kingdom, Drakes, Dominant, and Lucy for donating prizes, samples, and cookies for our residents, staff, and visitors.

A note for our regular visitors. Due to some issues with our auto door at the main entrance, they are only operable manually during business hours and have to be locked off after hours.

If you arrive after 4.30pm today, tomorrow, Monday or anytime on the weekend, we ask that you come to the Kintore entrance 20 metres west of the main reception.

We are hoping the parts to repair the door will arrive Tuesday so these arrangements will remain until then.

Thank you for consideration and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Please dont let it discourage you from enjoying a wonderful Mother's Day with your resident family member!

At Boneham we take our responsibilities to care for our residents with cognitive decline very seriously.

With an additional 16 new Dementia support beds to be constructed over the next 2 years we are investing heavily in our staffing and our in-house staff training as we prepare for a significant number of new residents.

With this in mind we are thrilled to announce that we have recruited a Dementia Specialist Nurse, Theresa Connor, who commenced with us last week.

Theresa has enormous experience in working with residents with dementia (and their families) and in training and supporting staff to care for people with cognitive decline. Theresa will work directly with new residents and their families, with all of our staff groups and will also host community information sessions to support those who care for loved ones with cognitive decline.

Theresa will also assist in the design of our new memory support unit to ensure that future residents needs are factored into the design.

Theresa said,

“I am looking forward to working with everyone at Boneham.
I have 30 years of experience in Aged Care and have a bachelor’s degree in Dementia care and am an Enrolled Nurse.
I have worked in a variety of roles and have worked with Dementia Support Australia.
I have a strong focus on providing quality meaningful care for people living with dementia.
This is an exciting time for Boneham with the upcoming extension, and I am very pleased to be a part of this.”

We welcome Theresa to our team and look forward to her support for Boneham and for members of our Millicent community. Theresa can be contacted through our main reception on 8733 4331.
