I attended the Perioperative Surgical Meeting last week with the SMIGS team - and (who chaired this fantastic event). Thank you for holding the fort!

We heard the latest surgical techniques for endometriosis, hysterectomy and fibroids but also what makes a great theatre team click, how we can best prepare for surgery and managing pain!

We also heard from incredible international speakers Dr Amy Park and Dr Michelle Louie, both leaders in their field. In between chairing a session and presenting our unit’s endometriosis research it was a busy few days, but did manage to sneak in a coffee run (or two), and a visit to the Impressionists :)

MotherSafe is a free telephone counselling service for women and their medical providers who may be concerned about their exposures while pregnant and/or breastfeeding🤱Exposures may include things like prescription drugs, over the counter medications, street drugs, infections, radiation and occupational exposures.

Over the last 25 years, MotherSafe has attended to more than 400,000 calls and in-person consultations and remains one of the most important services offered to women in NSW ❤️

If you do not speak English, a free interpreter can be arranged through TIS National by calling 131 450.

This International Women’s Day I wanted to honour some of the incredible women that have contributed to making science (and medicine) what it is today. In 1890, Dr Constance Stone was the first woman to be registered as a medical practitioner in Australia. Although we’ve undoubtedly come a long way since then, the World Economic Forum estimates that it will take 5 generations (until 2158) to reach full gender parity if we continue at the current rate of progress. This year, IWD is focusing on accelerating action and encouraging quick, decisive and effective action to address gender equality.
