Many people develop lumps and bumps beneath the skin throughout their lives. In most cases, these lumps and bumps are harmless (benign) and do not pose any risks to the patient. However, they can become uncomfortable, unsightly, infected, or cause concern because of changes in appearance. We always recommend regular skin checks with your Doctor to monitor and check all lumps and bumps, including benign moles.

Recently, Dr Safvat had the privilege of treating a truly remarkable gentleman – a 106 year old patient who underwent surgery for the removal of a large skin cancer from his scalp at Kareena Private Hospital.

At 106 years of age, he is not only Dr Safvat's oldest patient to date, but also the oldest patient treated at Kareena Private Hospital. What makes this milestone even more impressive is how well he is doing. His positive attitude, resilience and good humour were evident throughout his treatment journey.

Skin cancer can affect Australians of all ages, and specialist treatment remains important regardless of age when it is appropriate and in the patient's best interests. Dr Safvat was honoured to be entrusted with this gentleman's care and to play a small part in helping him continue to enjoy his independence and quality of life.
Patients should discuss with their GP and Plastic Surgeon as to whether surgery is a good option for them. All surgery comes with risks which will be discussed during consultation. A Day in Theatre Isn't Just About Surgery

While the operation itself is important, a typical theatre day also involves:

• Reviewing patient notes
• Meeting with patients before surgery
• Surgical planning
• Preparing for surgery - scrubbing hands, theatre clothing (scrubs) etc.
• Working with anaesthetists and nursing staff
• Post-operative reviews in recovery
• Documentation and follow-up care

A great surgical outcome is the result of teamwork, preparation and attention to detail at every stage of the patient journey and Dr Safvat prides himself on this!

Should I remove my breast implants after 10 years? This is a question we get asked often!

The answer is no, breast implants should only be removed if they are causing the patient problems not based on time.

Many patients have their implants for decades without any problems. Issues that may warrant implant removal are capsular contracture, rupture or other illnesses.
Patients should discuss with their GP & Plastic Surgeon whether surgery is a good option for them. All surgery carries risk. Final results can take up to 12 months or more to be seen. Before proceeding it is recommended that you seek a 2nd opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
