💚 R U OK? Day | A conversation can make a difference

Today is a reminder that sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply check in.

Life can be busy, and we don’t always know what someone else might be going through. Taking a moment to ask “Are you OK?”, genuinely listen and let someone know you’re there can mean more than you realise.

At Fresh Vision Optometrists, we believe looking after our community means looking out for one another too. 👀💚

So today, check in with a friend, family member, colleague or someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.

Ask. Listen. Encourage. Follow up.

Because a small conversation could make a big difference. 💚

🚨 Your Eyes Might Be Trying to Tell You Something

Changes in your vision are easy to dismiss.

Maybe things look a little blurrier than they used to. Perhaps you’re getting more headaches, struggling to see at night or finding yourself squinting more often.
These changes can be easy to put down to being tired or simply “getting older” — but they’re worth discussing with your optometrist. 👀

Your vision is something you rely on every day. Don’t ignore changes in the way you see.

If something doesn’t seem quite right, book an eye examination and give your eyes the attention they deserve. 💚

👧👦 Good Vision Helps Kids Learn, Grow & Explore

Did you know that clear, comfortable vision plays an important role in a child’s everyday life?

From reading and writing at school to playing sport, watching TV and exploring the world around them, children rely on their vision all day long. 📚⚽🌏

The tricky part? Children don’t always realise their vision could be better.

That’s why regular eye examinations are important — even if your child hasn’t complained about their eyesight.

Keep an eye out for signs such as:
👀 Sitting very close to the TV or books
📖 Losing their place when reading
🤔 Frequent squinting or rubbing their eyes
✏️ Difficulty concentrating on close-up tasks
😣 Headaches or tired eyes

If you’ve noticed any changes, it could be time for an eye check.

👁️ An Eye Test Is About More Than Your Glasses

Think an eye test is only about checking whether you need glasses?

Think again! 👀

A comprehensive eye examination is an important part of looking after your eye health. Your optometrist checks your vision and examines the health of your eyes, looking for changes that may need monitoring or further investigation.
Even if you’re seeing clearly, regular eye examinations can help make sure your eyes are staying healthy.

So don’t wait until you notice a problem — make eye health part of your regular health routine. 💚

👀 When Was Your Last Eye Test?

Following on from our last post, we’re talking about something many of us put off: booking a routine eye test.

You might think, “My vision seems fine, so I don’t need one.” But your eyes can change without obvious symptoms. Regular eye examinations give your optometrist the opportunity to check not only how clearly you see, but also the health of your eyes.

✨ An eye test can help:
👓 Keep your prescription up to date
🔎 Monitor changes in your vision
❤️ Check the health of your eyes
🩺 Identify signs that may need further investigation
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Give you peace of mind at any age

Looking after your eyes is a little like looking after the rest of your health — prevention and regular checks matter.

So, if you can’t remember when you last had your eyes tested, consider this your friendly reminder! 💚

👀 Why Are Eye Tests Important at Every Age?

Your eyes can change gradually, and sometimes you may not notice a problem until it starts affecting your everyday life. That’s why regular eye tests are important at every stage of life — not just when you’re having trouble seeing.

👶 Children: Healthy vision is essential for learning, development and confidence at school.

🧑 Adults: Regular eye tests can detect changes in your vision and help identify eye conditions early.

👵 Older adults: Routine eye checks become increasingly important as the risk of certain age-related eye conditions increases.

An eye test isn’t just about checking whether you need glasses — it’s an important part of looking after your overall eye health. 👓✨

When was your last eye test? If it’s been a while, it may be time to book one.

💛 Daffodil Day | Raising Awareness for Eye Cancer 💛

This Daffodil Day, we're joining the conversation around cancer awareness and support by shining a light on eye cancer.

While eye cancer is less common than many other cancers, it can affect people of all ages and may not always cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages.

One of the most common types of eye cancer in adults is ocular melanoma, which develops in the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea.

Signs to look out for include:
👁️ Blurred or changing vision
👁️ Flashes of light or floating spots (floaters)
👁️ A dark spot on the iris that appears to grow
👁️ Loss of part of your visual field
👁️ Changes in the shape or position of the eye (less common)

It's important to remember that many of these symptoms can also be caused by other eye conditions, but they should always be assessed by an optometrist or eye care professional.

Regular comprehensive eye examinations are an important part of maintaining your eye health and can help detect changes inside the eye that may require further investigation—even before symptoms develop.

This Daffodil Day, take a moment to learn more about eye cancer, support those affected by cancer, and prioritise your eye health.

📅 If it's been a while since your last eye examination, book an appointment with Fresh Vision Optometrists at Everton Park or Maroochydore today and stay proactive about your eye health. https://freshvision.com.au/

The cold weather can sometimes make contact lenses feel less comfortable. During winter, indoor heating, lower humidity levels and dry air can contribute to this leaving the eyes feeling dry, irritated or fatigued throughout the day.

A few simple habits can help support comfortable lens wear during the colder months:
• Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling lenses
• Keep lubricating eye drops nearby to help maintain moisture
•Prioritise using glasses when your eyes feel tired or dry

If your lenses become consistently uncomfortable or your eyes remain irritated, speak with your optometrist for personalised advice. Book an appointment today at Fresh Vision Everton Park & Maroochydore https://freshvision.com.au/
