Newborns can be wonderfully worrying! 💕
Many things that seem alarming in those first few weeks are actually a normal part of your baby’s adjustment to life outside the womb.
💛 It’s common to see:
* Irregular breathing with brief pauses
* Frequent sneezing and hiccups
* Blue hands and feet (while the rest of baby is pink)
* Peeling skin
* Misshapen or cone-shaped head
* Baby acne
* Crossed eyes from time to time
* Trembling or shaky chin
* Swollen breast tissue (in both boys and girls)
* Black poo (meconium) in the first few days
* Noisy sleep with grunts, squeaks and snuffles
* An umbilical stump that darkens, dries out and may have a slight smell before it falls off
These are all usually part of normal newborn development and settle with time.
Of course, trust your instincts, if your baby is difficult to wake, not feeding well, has trouble breathing, develops a fever, changes colour, or if you have any concerns at all, seek medical advice promptly.
So rather than worrying over Google searches at 3am, reach out to your midwife, child health nurse or GP instead ❤️
