Great to see GriffithOT graduate Josh doing so well!

Occupational therapist at PA Hospital, Josh Dobe has found his career home in the Spinal Injuries Unit for the past five years helping patients learn new ways to do life’s tasks.

Spinal Injuries is a specialty area for applying OT skills which Josh says is all about long-term connections with people and the patients you get to work with.

“Occupational therapy is such an essential part of spinal injuries rehabilitation,” he said.

“We support people to learn to live with a lifelong condition covering education, equipment prescription, physical rehab, and teaching people to do things a different way.”

The Griffith University graduate said the most memorable part of the job is seeing the whole patient journey from acute injury treatment in the ward, through to transitional rehabilitation program.

“Seeing each person discharge back into the community and how far they have come on the journey to independence is the best part of my job.”

Shoutout to all the allied health professionals that serve our Metro South Health community every day.

The GriffithOT practice education team has been firing on all cylinders over the past few months! Highlights include students thriving on rural placements—weathering cyclones, power outages, and days without water, all while loving the experience and asking for more. We’ve been excited to partner with new placement providers and reconnect with our partners and alumni, opening up even more opportunities to support our students’ growth into confident, graduate occupational therapists. GriffithOT was proud to be part of the Interprofessional Education Workshops in February which was attended a range of health professionals with a discipline specific focus in the afternoon. GriffithOT hosted the OT Futures placement allocations meeting in April, bringing together peers from across Queensland for great conversations and plenty of collaborative problem solving and big-picture thinking about how we build capacity into the future.

A huge thank you to all our partners for hosting and supporting our students’ learning journeys. Your contribution is invaluable, and we’re looking forward to continuing this work together in our upcoming July placements.
