ILS Kids Paediatric Assistive Technology equipment specialists for children & young adults with disabilities.

We specialise in the distribution of Paediatric Assistive Technology equipment to children and young adults with disabilities. Our equipment range is fun, funky and functional and we have access to over 150 different pieces of equipment, ranging from strollers to bathing aides, walkers, standing frames, seating systems, car seats and bikes. We aim to educate therapists and parents on equipment choices, to empower families to make the journey easier and to see children reach their full potential in the face of adversity: to live, laugh & play!

A well-configured wheelchair may provide the postural support a child needs for sitting, function and participation. But even a well-supported position can become uncomfortable or tiring when maintained for extended periods.

Tilt-in-space can provide another way to introduce positional change during the day.

Because the seat and backrest tilt together, the child’s configured seated position can largely be maintained while their orientation to gravity changes.

Where clinically indicated, this may support:
- Pressure redistribution
- Rest during periods of fatigue
- Changes in loading across the day
- Reduced demand on head and trunk control
- Tone management without changing the seated hip angle

Regular position changes are an important part of postural management, but they don’t always need to rely on transfers.

Talk to our ATPs about assessment and trial options for paediatric tilt-in-space wheelchairs.

Tilt-in-space positioning can form an important part of pressure management.

In an upright seated position, areas such as the pelvis carry significant load. When a tilt-in-space wheelchair is tilted, the seat and backrest move together – changing the child’s orientation to gravity and redistributing load across a larger supported surface.

And because the hip and knee angles are maintained, tilt can also help reduce sliding, manage muscle tone, and preserve postural alignment.

For children who have difficulty independently changing position, this may provide an important opportunity for regular pressure redistribution throughout the day.

Our ATPs work alongside therapists to assess, configure and trial paediatric seating and mobility options. Get in touch to find out more.

When considering contracture management, it’s natural to focus on what happens during waking hours – movement, stretching, standing and active positioning.

But the hours spent resting and sleeping matter too.

For children who have difficulty changing position independently, prolonged time in the same posture may contribute to soft tissue adaptation. Over time, muscles and other soft tissues can shorten around the positions in which the body spends significant periods of time.

Where clinically appropriate, supported lying can form part of a broader 24-hour approach to postural management. Overnight positioning may help support alignment, accommodate existing limitations in range and reduce prolonged time spent in potentially harmful resting postures.

Importantly, the goal isn’t to force the body into a ‘perfect’ position. Positioning needs to consider comfort, sleep, existing range of movement, muscle tone and the individual child – with changes introduced gently and gradually where appropriate.

For children at risk of contracture, positioning across the full 24 hours can be an important part of the clinical picture.

Our ATPs work alongside therapists and families to assess supported lying needs and explore appropriate solutions.

Children are naturally curious about the world around them. A flower in the garden, something happening across the playground, another child to say hello to – there are plenty of reasons to get moving.

For children who need additional support with mobility, a walker or gait trainer can help turn that curiosity into opportunities for exploration.

Where clinically appropriate, supported mobility can give children more opportunities to practise starting and stopping, changing direction, navigating different surfaces and making choices about where they want to go. Along the way, they’re also engaging with their environment and the people in it.

And that matters. Movement with a purpose – reaching something interesting, joining an activity or exploring somewhere new – can create meaningful opportunities to develop mobility skills while supporting independence and participation.

With spring bringing more opportunities to get outdoors, it’s a good time to consider whether a child’s mobility equipment is supporting how and where they want to explore.

Our ATPs work alongside therapists and families to assess mobility needs and find solutions that support each child’s individual goals.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandads and father figures out there🌞

Whether it's cheering from the sideline at weekend sport or getting out and about with family or friends, we love seeing you out there making memories.

But today isn't only about the big gestures. Sometimes what means the most is a little acknowledgement, feeling truly seen and some time to yourself, alongside time with family.

However today looks for you, we hope it's exactly what you need 💙

For many children, running races, playground games and sports days are about far more than movement.

They're about belonging.

Walkers and gait trainers can provide the support some children need to move alongside their peers, take part in school activities and experience the confidence that comes from joining in.

Participation matters because it creates opportunities to:
🔸 Build friendships through shared experiences
🔸Develop confidence and independence
🔸Practise movement in meaningful, real-world settings
🔸 Explore the environment alongside other children
🔸 Celebrate achievements, big and small

Every child deserves the chance to move, play and participate in the moments that matter.

When clinically indicated, walkers and gait trainers can become valuable tools within a child's broader therapy plan, supporting mobility while encouraging inclusion at home, school and in the community.

Children spend many hours resting and sleeping (even if it doesn’t always feel that way!). But for those with complex postural needs, time lying down can have a significant impact on comfort, body shape and overall wellbeing.

Supported lying isn't simply about getting a better night's sleep. It's about providing appropriate positioning over extended periods, when the body has fewer opportunities to adjust naturally.

With an individualised positioning system, supported lying may help:
🔹 Promote more symmetrical positioning during rest
🔹 Reduce prolonged pressure on vulnerable areas
🔹 Support comfort throughout the night
🔹Help protect body shape over time
🔹 Create a more stable position for rest and sleep

Every child is different, and the right positioning approach depends on their postural needs, movement patterns and overall goals. That's why supported lying systems should always form part of a broader clinical assessment.

Thoughtful overnight positioning can support comfort today while helping protect long-term postural health.

If you're considering whether supported lying could benefit a child, our Assistive Technology Professionals work alongside therapists and families to assess individual needs and explore suitable options.

Participation doesn’t always mean doing more.

Sometimes it means relaxing together – watching a movie, reading a book, or simply spending time with family.

For children with additional needs, standard lounge seating doesn’t always provide the support needed to stay comfortable for long. Chillout chairs can offer a supportive place to rest while still maintaining postural support.

These seating options may help:
🔹Support the body in a relaxed, comfortable position
🔹Provide gentle containment for children who benefit from sensory input
🔹Maintain postural stability while resting
🔹Make it easier to stay part of family time

From deep-sided chairs like the Gravity Chair or Dreamline Snooza, to supportive beanbag-style seats such as the P Pod, these devices combine comfort with postural support.

Because sometimes the best moments are the quiet ones shared together.

Bathrooms can be one of the highest-risk areas in the home – especially when lifting, bathing or supporting a child with additional needs.

Slippery surfaces, awkward transfers and confined spaces can place strain on both the child and the person assisting them.

Assistive technology can help make daily routines safer and more manageable for everyone involved.

Equipment may help by:
🔹Improving stability and positioning during bathing or showering
🔹Supporting safer transfers in and out of the bath, shower or toilet
🔹Reducing manual lifting and strain on carers’ backs
🔹Promoting comfort and dignity during personal care routines

From bath chairs and shower commodes to supportive toileting equipment, the right setup can help reduce risk while supporting independence where possible.

The most appropriate equipment depends on each child’s mobility, postural needs and the layout of the bathroom environment.

A therapist and Assistive Technology Professional can help assess what will work best at home.
