Wonderful programs on the beaches, this one brings together local Aboriginal women to offer healing circles - as she says, the oldest surviving indigenous peoples surely know a thing or two about living a good life, surviving and healing practices. We are fortunate to have more and more ways of engaging and learning from each other.

We are all about kindness… this session sounds like a good night in!

“The Kindness Revolution is a distillation of Hugh Mackay's life's work. Written for our times, this remarkable book shows how crises and catastrophes often turn out to be the making of us.

Hugh Mackay speaks to Bruno Lettieri about the challenges of 2020 and the questions many of us have asked after the year of upheaval. What really matters to me? Am I living the kind of life I want? What sort of society do I want us to become?

Urging us not to let those questions go, and pointing to our inspiring displays of kindness and consideration, our personal sacrifices for the common good and our heightened appreciation of the value of local neighbourhoods and communities, he asks in turn: 'Could we become renowned as a loving country, rather than simply a "lucky" one?'

Excellent article about the complex issues arising across the planet - explaining the various traumatic experiences and complicated grief being endured. A long however valuable read 🙏

“Even now, with COVID-19 cases in the U.S. falling and vaccinations rising, many of the people whom Lipsky works with are struggling. Things are getting better, so why don’t they feel better? “A lot of them are really confused by it, because they feel like they made it through and can see a little light at the end of the tunnel,” she said.
If you’ve been swimming furiously for a year, you don’t expect to finally reach dry land and feel like you’re drowning.”

The pandemic’s mental wounds are still wide open.

"It is important for employers to understand the dimensions of trauma, including how both major traumatic events and daily “micro-traumas” impact an employee’s behavior and performance; how past childhood trauma might be triggering certain mental health challenges in adulthood; and the ways in which the workplace itself could be inducing or exacerbating emotional trauma."

The events of the past year have deepened society’s understanding of trauma and broadened the view of how many people are coping with the impacts of trauma on a daily basis – even if not officially diagnosed with or being treated for Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS).

Relaxation response versus Stress response: one of Saturday’s slides shown in our first Trauma Awareness training since the pandemic .
This complex slide shows the effects of nervous system dysregulation ( the hallmark of a trauma response ) whereby every organ and their function is affected to some degree or another.
The hope of trauma aware care is that there are simple but effective tools and practices that can be utilised to help our clients (and ourselves) experience deeper levels of healing and integrated wholeness.
