🚧ROAD CLOSURE🚧

Due to floodway damage the Shire of Moora wishes to advise the temporary closure of Webb Street Moora until water levels fall enough to allow repairs to be completed.

Access only permitted to Webb Street residencies and Webb Street agriculture access.

The 2026 WA Young Writers Award closes at 5:30pm Monday, August 10th, so if you know a young writer in Years 1–12, now's the time to get their story in!

Celebrating 34 years of exemplary writing, this award - presented by the City of Subiaco - is open to young writers from across WA. Entries are judged on originality, story development, and quality of writing (not quantity).

Prizes awarded across five school-year categories, plus an Award for Outstanding Achievement for the best overall story. Winning entries will be exhibited at Subiaco Library and published online.

⏰ Don't miss out: entries close 5:30pm tomorrow, Monday August 10th.

There is no known safe amount of alcohol during pregnancy. Every September, we mark FASD Awareness Month to spread this message and support alcohol-free pregnancies - because prevention takes a whole community.

A friendly reminder from the Shire of Moora:

We've had a few reports of littering and illegal dumping around the Shire lately. A timely reminder that it's not just unsightly, it's an offence. On-the-spot fines start at $200 for individuals, rising to $500 where littering creates a public risk (like broken glass). Court penalties can reach up to $5,000.

The good news? Moora's tip makes it easy to do the right thing:

♻ Sorted recyclables – FREE
✅ Green waste – FREE
🪑 Residential ratepayers may be eligible for 4 free tip passes each year for other items.

There's no need for rubbish to end up on our roadsides when there's a free, easy option just down the road - and its often visitors' first impression of our Shire.

Do the right thing - bin it, sort it, or drop it at the tip 💚

If you see anyone doing the above, please get in touch with the Shire office so that we can put a stop to it and keep our town tidy and safe for all to enjoy.

The August issue of Shire of Moora News is here, and it's all about self-expression!

From the vibrant new children's show Aliwah Bardinar at MPAC, to the stunning youth mural on Roberts St, to a creative writing workshop that had kids dreaming of their own chapter books - our community has so much to say, and so many ways of saying it.

This spirit carries into Children's Book Week (22–28 August), with this year's theme Symphony of Stories - every book, every voice adding its own note to something bigger.

Whether it's through the WA Writing Awards, Book Week at school, or getting inspired by a standup comedy show at the MPAC - this month, we want to hear YOUR story. Writer, painter, singer, reader, or just a good yapper with your neighbour - August is the month to let your voice be heard.
