Using solariums significantly increases skin cancer risk especially Melanoma. We need to do better at putting a stop to solarium use. It seems that Victoria is better at prosecuting people who break the law but the other states need to crack down on this. If you have used a solarium you are high risk for skin cancers and please book an urgent skin check.

Illegal solariums are operating across the country, from single machines secretly set up in suburban neighbourhood garages to those hidden in the back of legitimate businesses.

Professor Richard Scolyer has unfortunately passed away. He was an amazing Melanoma researcher and will be greatly missed by many. Condolences to his family a d friends at this time.

: Professor Richard Scolyer has died aged 59 after a remarkable fight against the 'worst of the worst brain cancers'.

The 2024 Australian of the Year leaves a legacy of fast-tracking revolutionary cancer treatment by becoming "patient zero" for an experimental treatment.

One of the world's top melanoma pathologists, Professor Scolyer and his colleagues took everything they had learnt about fighting melanoma and adapted it to brain cancer treatment.

It resulted in valuable data that showed how immunotherapy could be used for brain cancer – a cancer that has not had any development in treatment for almost two decades.

"I hope this has the power to transform how we treat all cancers, to think big and be courageous.” - Professor Scolyer.

Handed a prognosis of six months, Professor Scolyer kept his cancer at bay for 22 months using the trial treatment before the glioblastoma returned in March 2025.
