“There can be an enormous difference between talking about anxiety and exploring what lies beneath it.”
My work involves going beyond the immediate symptoms and becoming curious about the deeper emotional and subconscious patterns involved. Hypnotherapy can be very useful in this process, particularly when conscious thinking alone hasn’t shifted an ingrained response. Sometimes a deeper understanding creates a completely different relationship with the anxiety. Wonder over worry. Curiosity over judgement. Understanding before simply trying to control. If you feel there may be something deeper beneath your anxiety, you’re welcome to explore that with me professionally.

The question isn't ‘What’s wrong with me?’ It’s ‘What happened that created these feelings inside of me?’”
Anxiety is not evidence that something is wrong with you. An anxious response once made perfect sense. It may have developed during a difficult relationship, childhood experiences or a frightening event or period when life simply didn’t feel safe. Therapy can help you understand those older patterns and get to the core of how they came to be. This can facilitate deep and lasting inner change. “Coping with anxiety is what we do until we Understand where it comes from"
Breathing exercises, mindfulness and practical strategies can be helpful. But for most people, the anxiety keeps returning. That’s when it's time to explore the deeper issues beneath it — emotional experiences, beliefs and protective responses that have been operating outside conscious awareness. The aim isn’t to become better at living with anxiety. It’s to understand why it is there in the first place. Only then do we have a chance of being free of it.

“What if anxiety isn’t your enemy?”
We tend to fight anxiety, suppress it, distract ourselves from it or tell ourselves we shouldn’t be feeling it. But often anxiety can be approached differently — as a messenger. Instead of resisting anxiety, we become curious about it. Wonder over worry. What is causing this feeling? When did this begin? What part of me is creating this feeling ? Curiosity can open doors that fighting ourselves never will. To book a session with Steve go to stevetibbits.com.au

Therapy that doesn't include work with 'parts' or 'archetypes', isn't seeing the whole picture. When we can isolate a part eg. an angry part we can work with it through our awareness to reduce it's ability to be active within us.

A male I worked with today had a lot of anger, and it was sabotaging his marriage. He wanted it gone. So we went in, (closed eye therapy) and there it was, a big red ball in his solar plexus. I asked him to push it out the front of him (using his mind, imagination and energy awareness), which he did. Then he could see an image of an earlier version of himself. When he was younger and angrier.

We can then do all sorts of techniques to help him transcend it and empower himself to overcome it. We acknowledge that when he was younger he needed this energy (anger) to protect himself from a world of threats. But now, those threats are no longer exist.

If you or anyone you know could use some help with something shoot me a pm or jump on the website and we'll get to the core of the problem.

So many people put up with dysfunctional or unsatisfying relationships, sweep things under the carpet, don't want to 'rock the boat', don't want to bring up something that might trigger the other person, don't want to 'make things worse', or simply tolerate unwanted behaviour. But by not dealing with it will eventually lead to a worsening of the issue. Book a session today (if he / she is up for improving things !). You won't regret it ! but you may regret putting it off. Are you feeling lonely ?

You can have people all around you… and still feel completely alone.

Loneliness isn’t always about having nobody.

Sometimes it’s having people in your life, but not feeling truly seen, understood or connected.

Around 1 in 4 people in Greater Geelong report experiencing loneliness, and across Australia social disconnection is increasingly common.

It can happen after separation, grief, retirement, children leaving home, moving, losing friendships — or simply slowly becoming disconnected from the life and people that once mattered.

And loneliness can become a cycle.

The more disconnected we feel, the harder it can become to reach out.

A few small things can help:

• Message one person.
• Make one regular catch-up each week.
• Join something where people share an interest.
• Have a more honest conversation with someone you trust.
• And if something deeper is keeping you disconnected, consider getting some support.

Sometimes we don’t need more people.

We need deeper connection with the right people.

And if anxiety, grief, old relationship wounds or past experiences are making connection difficult, that’s something we can explore therapeutically.

You’re welcome to book a session with me if that feels useful.

Maybe healing isn’t always about becoming someone new.

Maybe it’s about letting go of the things you learned you had to be.

The people-pleaser.

The one who never asks for help.

The strong unemotional one.

The one who keeps everyone happy.

The one who says, “It doesn’t bother me.”

Sometimes the most important question isn’t:

“Who should I become?”

It’s:

“Who am I underneath everything I learned to be?”

What does “being authentic” actually mean in therapy?

It doesn’t mean saying absolutely everything to everyone.

It doesn’t mean changing your personality.

And it certainly doesn’t mean becoming a completely different person.

Authenticity is about becoming more aware of what is genuinely happening within you — your feelings, needs, fears, patterns and experiences — rather than continually responding according to what you think you should feel.

Many of us learn ways of coping very early in life.

Be strong ( translates to - push fear or emotion to the side)
Keep everyone happy (or Become the Pleaser, put others first yourself last)
Don’t make a fuss (don't upset anyone, put others first)
Don’t show weakness (be 'stoic' suppress any feelings / emotions)
Keep going (don't rest, don't look after yourself which would be wise, just keep pushing through it... leading to accumulative stress anxiety and potential breakdown!)

Those strategies we were taught in our family culture may once have protected us.

But sometimes the behaviours that helped us cope in the past begin creating difficulties in the present.

Psychotherapy provides an opportunity to understand those patterns with curiosity rather than judgement.

The aim isn’t to manufacture a “better” version of you.

It’s to help you understand yourself more deeply and live with greater freedom, awareness and authenticity.

What would change if you felt you could be completely yourself ?

“I’m fine.”

Sometimes those two words require an enormous amount of energy.

You can look completely capable on the outside while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected or exhausted underneath.

You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart before talking to someone.

And you don’t have to have the perfect words.

Sometimes therapy begins simply with:
“I’m actually not fine.”
