Mother’s Day can hold so many different emotions.
For some, it is filled with joy, cuddles, laughter and love.
For others, it can bring grief, longing, heartbreak, silence, guilt, confusion or emptiness.
Today, I want to acknowledge:
The mothers doing their best every single day.
The mothers who have lost a child.
The women longing to become mothers.
The mothers separated or estranged from their children.
Those grieving the loss of their own mother.
The children trying to navigate life with a mother affected by mental illness, trauma, addiction or emotional absence.
The women carrying invisible pain behind their smiles.
And those who never experienced the love, safety or nurturing they deserved from a mother figure.
Motherhood and family relationships are not always simple.
Sometimes they are beautiful.
Sometimes they are deeply painful.
Often, they are both.
Please know that your feelings are valid today — whatever they may be.
You do not have to force gratitude, happiness or celebration if your heart is carrying grief or hurt.
As a counsellor, I see the strength it takes to keep showing up through loss, disappointment, complicated relationships and healing journeys.
And I want you to know: your story matters, your pain matters, and you deserve support too.
