🎬🍦 Movie Day with the Magnificent Minions! 🍦🎬

This Monday, our Trafalgar group enjoyed a relaxing movie day with a selection of films to choose from. After some discussion, the group settled on Bohemian Rhapsody and what a fantastic choice it was! 🎶👑

Everyone enjoyed watching the story of Queen's journey unfold on the big screen, complete with some of the band's greatest hits along the way. 🎵✨

Of course, no movie day is complete without a sweet treat, and ice cream was the perfect addition to the afternoon. 🍦😊

A great movie, great company, and ice cream too. Sounds like the perfect combination to us! 💛

💛 Loneliness Awareness Week (3-9 August) 💛

This week is a reminder that meaningful connection matters.

Loneliness can affect anyone, and often isn't visible from the outside. A simple conversation, invitation, phone call, or act of kindness can help someone feel seen, valued, and included. ✨

This year's Loneliness Awareness Week theme,"Make Room for Connection," encourages all of us to create opportunities for connection in our homes, workplaces, and communities.

At Headway Gippsland, we're proud to create spaces where people can build friendships, try new activities, and feel part of their community through our Social Support Groups.

🤠⭐ Yee-Haw! Country & Western Fun Day in Morwell! ⭐🤠

Our Morwell group recently saddled up for a fantastic Country & Western Fun Day, and what a day it was! 🌵🐎

From quizzes and boot tossing to bean bag challenges, coits around a cactus, and plenty of prizes, there was no shortage of fun and laughter throughout the day. 🎯✨

One of the cutest highlights was the "Wanted" photo booth, where everyone took turns posing as the most wanted cowboy or cowgirl in town! 📸🤠 It was wonderful to see everyone's creativity and sense of humour shine through, with participants fully embracing their country characters and striking their best outlaw poses.

Another crowd favourite was Tin Can Alley, which proved to be a huge hit, along with the challenge of trying to "shoot" the can off a cowboy hat. The friendly competition and laughter made for some unforgettable moments! 😂

After all that action, everyone had certainly worked up an appetite. Lunch was a tasty serving of hot dogs, followed by hot apple pie and ice cream for dessert. 🌭🥧🍨

It was a day filled with fun, friendship, creativity, and plenty of country spirit. We hope you enjoy the photos as much as we all enjoyed our Country & Western Day! 💛

🍳🧀 Cooking Up a Storm with the South Coasters! 🧀🍳

Last Friday, our Wonthaggi South Coasters put their cooking skills to the test by making delicious omelettes. 💛

Participants showed off some impressive chopping skills, and mastered the art of cracking eggs without getting any shell in the bowl, which is a skill in itself! 👏🥚

With ingredients including eggs, bacon, cheese, and spring onions, everyone had the chance to create a tasty meal just the way they liked it. There was even more than one way to cook an omelette, with participants using both an electric hot plate and a waffle maker. 🍽️✨

Safe to say, nobody went hungry, and there were plenty of smiles around the table!

💙 Positive Experiences Deserve to Be Celebrated 💙

In today’s world, negative experiences often receive the most attention. Today, I’d like to take a moment to recognise an organisation that truly deserves some positive recognition.

A huge shout to the team team Headway Gippsland Morwell! 👏

Today, I supported a participant who did not currently have a Support Coordinator. Together, we visited Headway Gippsland to explore what services and supports may be available.

From the moment we walked through the door, the team was welcoming, professional and genuinely invested in getting to know the participant. They took the time to complete an intake, actively listen and understand the participant’s goals, interests, preferences and individual support needs.

It was clear that their approach was genuinely person-centred and focused on ensuring the participant felt comfortable, respected and heard.

What began as an enquiry about Support Coordination quickly became so much more. The participant felt so welcomed and valued that they have now chosen to engage with Headway Gippsland for weekly one-to-one supports.

They were also provided with information about one of Headway’s social support programs and have already registered. They are now extremely excited about attending a movie outing next week—with popcorn and ice cream included! 🍿🍦

As support workers and providers, we often witness the incredible impact that genuine kindness, compassion and quality service can have on someone’s confidence and willingness to engage with supports.

Today was a wonderful reminder of just how much of a difference the right approach can make.

Thank you to everyone at Headway Gippsland Morwell for the compassion, professionalism and attention to detail you demonstrated. Your dedication made a genuine difference, and I have no doubt this participant’s journey will be stronger because of the support they received today.

Positive experiences deserve to be celebrated just as much as challenges deserve to be addressed.

Well done to the entire team! 💙👏

We're starting the Headway Tabletop RPG Group in Morwell and we're looking for participants who want to join us for fun, immersive adventures and great stories.
✅ Brand new to RPGs welcome
✅ Seasoned adventurers welcome
✅ Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk and more
✅ 2-hour sessions
✅ Maximum ratio of 1 staff to 4 participants
✅ NDIS funding may be available

Sessions will be held at the Headway Morwell Office, 219 Princes Drive, Morwell. Days and session times are still to be decided and will be based on participant interest and availability once we know how many people would like to join.

🌻🎨 Sunflowers, Creativity, and a Touch of Imagination! 🎨🌻

Last week's Wonthaggi Social Support Group session was full of creativity as participants created these beautiful sunflower canvases using rope and raffia. ✨

It was wonderful to see everyone's artistic ideas come to life, with each piece taking on its own unique style and personality. 💛

One of our participants, Nicole, noticed that her design reminded her of a snail, so she embraced her creativity and transformed it into one! 🐌🌻 We love seeing how a simple idea can evolve into something completely unique.

Activities like these are a fantastic way to encourage self-expression, build confidence, and most importantly, have fun together. The creativity on display was truly impressive!
