The letters are on the tile. Here is what they leave out.

The ugly duckling sign: most of your moles look like siblings. The one worth showing us is the one that does not belong to the family.

It can be smaller than the others. Lighter. Perfectly round. It just has to be different from its neighbours.

A swatch is roughly what most people put on a whole arm.

It should be about a teaspoon.

We stock a small range rather than a large one: iS Clinical, Mesoprotech from Mesoestetic for SPF, and Dermaceutic. Chosen because people actually use them, which sounds like a low bar until you count the half empty bottles in Peninsula bathrooms.

Ask at reception which suits your skin.

Everything we do, on one card.

The clinical side: spot checks, full skin checks, and full body mole mapping with FotoFinder.

The other side: facials, peels, dermaplaning and light therapy, because skin health and skin care are not separate conversations and it is easier when one place handles both.

Prices are published on the website. Not behind an enquiry form, not on request. A price you have to ask for is a price that costs you something to ask.

Nothing to hide from it.

Worth knowing: UV is not the same as heat or brightness. It climbs toward solar noon and peaks there, which means the pleasant end of a Peninsula morning can carry more UV than a hot late afternoon.

People put this off for years and then describe the appointment afterwards as anticlimactic, which is exactly the review we are going for.

Worth knowing: freckles are not moles. They are clusters of pigment that darken with sun and fade in winter, and they tend to appear on skin that burns before it tans.

Which makes them less of a flaw and more of a risk profile. Freckling is one of the things we actually count when we assess how often you should be checked.

So: keep them. Photograph them. Just have someone who knows the difference look at what is sitting among them.

Sand keeps a record of every wind that crossed it.

So does skin.

Peninsula mornings start early out here, and the sun is drawing before most of us are up.

Every hour it spends on you gets filed away somewhere: freckles, texture, the spots that were not there last summer. None of it announces itself at the time, which is the whole problem and the whole reason we exist.

That is the idea we will keep coming back to. Your skin is a record, and records are worth reading properly.
