Private equity companies are turning autism treatment into a multi-billion dollar industry, sold as behavior management. Many providers (myself included) believe that autism is not a behavior to manage, but a neurodivergent brain that should be appreciated, accommodated, and nurtured.

We attended this wonderful event last week hosted by Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN, to see Clinical Psychologist Andrew Fuller provide an overview of his latest book, Neuroadvantage: The Strength-based approach to neurodivergence.

Andrew reframed neurodivergence not as a disorder, but as a natural and valuable way that some children think and experience the world, bringing their own unique strengths and talents. Andrew provided some practical tools, strategies, and insights for families and schools to better understand, support, and celebrate all children.

Afterward, there was a panel discussion with Richard Crawshaw from Can't Face School, Chris Varney from the I CAN Network Ltd, Faelen McLean who brought amazing lived experience, and our PATHS psychologist Emily Settree. The panel discussed how we can better support children and young people who experience "school can't" and embrace neurodivergence as a strength. The importance of relational safety and facilitating a sense of belonging and acceptance was also highlighted.

Thank you Frankston Mornington Peninsula LLEN for this wonderful community event!
