Thyroid Awareness Month (Australia)
This month is a timely reminder of how many symptoms we dismiss as “just getting older”, “stress”, or “hormones” are often quietly driven by the thyroid.
Your thyroid is the metabolic boss of the body. It sets the pace for how every cell works — your energy, mood, weight regulation, temperature control, digestion, skin, hair, menstrual cycle, cholesterol, and even how clearly you think.
When it’s under strain, the signs are often subtle and easy to miss:
🪻Ongoing fatigue, even after sleep
🪻Weight gain that doesn’t respond to diet changes
🪻Constipation and bloating
🪻Dry skin, hair thinning, brittle nails
🪻Feeling cold when others aren’t
🪻Low mood, anxiety, or brain fog
🪻Heavy, irregular, or painful periods
🪻High cholesterol despite “doing everything right”
And importantly — many people are told their thyroid tests are “normal” while they still feel far from well.
This is because thyroid health is not just about TSH.
It involves:
🥬Nutrient status (iron, selenium, zinc, iodine, tyrosine, B vitamins)
🥬Gut health and absorption
🥬Liver function and hormone conversion
🥬Stress load and cortisol patterns
🥬 Inflammation and autoimmunity (Hashimoto’s is far more common than most realise)
Your thyroid doesn’t work in isolation. It is part of a bigger system.
If you have been feeling “off” and haven’t had your thyroid properly investigated, this is your reminder to look deeper.
Thyroid symptoms are common. Feeling unwell is not normal.
This Thyroid Awareness Month, listen to what your body has been trying to tell you.
